Welcome to my brother Supe2000...who doesn't own a Mini, but is putting in a pretty good effort at getting his GTI to look as much like a Mini as possible. How are the sketches for those driving lights coming along? ;-)

Pretty good, I think I'm going to photo shop them in later on. I might put a rack of them on the roof, real rally style. It would have helped when I was driving through that blizzard the other day on the way home from Fel-town.

Dan,

Can you give some more details as to where that is at? Not familiar...thanks!

Any new mods for anyone?

I put my Alta Intake on a few weeks ago and hope to get my rims installed next week. They are finally in my garage, just need to do some touch up on them this weekend.

The intake is great - it really does make the car sound a bit more aggressive, good feedback on where the throttle is. Doesn't feel like a huge power gain, but the car does seem to just breath a bit easier. I think it will work well with a pulley (soon!)

Hey Fishbulb,

Red Robin is on RT 40 JUst west of RT 896. If you are coming from I95
take the 896 exit and head a way from Newark. When you get to Rt 40 make a right and Red Robin is down on the left hand side of the road. It is in the shopping center with Home Depot.

If you need any thiong else let me know.

The three of us are definitely coming. As far as mods go. JustinO and I recently painted our side marker grilles satin black, which I love. We also added a HAI intake, you basically clamp a K&N 1550 directly to the throttle body and remove as much of the stock airbox as possible. I've got to say that for about $45, this was a great mod. I'm not sure if a CAI really does anything different for about 150-250 more. The butt dyno says it pulls harder, i've actually chirped second gear with DSC on (ah!). I'll show you guys what we did on Saturday.

It will be great to finally put some faces to the screenames.

Yeah for real, and to put some Red Robin burgers and shakes in our bellies. Mmmm. Faaaaat. What a fun field trip we're going to have. Ian, should I bring the fake MINI (aka the GTI) or just ride with you or Justin?

you could just ride in with one of us...I'm planning on giving Duncan a bath before we show up...There's a great place on old baltimore pike that is $5.00 for all you can wash...it's the buffet of powerwashers.

too freaking funny!

I did more reading about the HAI after I had the Alta on my christmas list. Either way, it's all good... I don't know if i can make it this weekend, but at some point it will be interesting to check them out back to back. The Alta does add a bit of noise, but in a good way!

It would be great if you could meet up on Saturday! I'd love to compare the RG to the DS back to back.

or side by side...

I'd love to check out the Alta, in all the many reviews on here, I didn't feel like paying the extra money for the AGS or the JCW was worth it. If I did ever 'upgrade' from the HAI to the CAI, I would probably go with the Alta.

Although Webb Motorsports new airbox looks nice too...so many to choose from.

How nice is that supercharger whine now? AND I got 33 mpg on my commute from Philly to Newark yesterday!

Duncan?? You named the MINI Duncan? As in Duncan McCleod? Are we in a weird hybrid episode of Transformers and Highlander now? Are you and Justin's MINIs going to fight to the death because, as we all know, there can be only one? It's not really a bad name, just different.

Or are you just washing some kid named Duncan at the ol' buffet o' powerwashers?

As for RG/DS side by side, I prefer the BRG, and it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

Yes we did, and we had a great time. It was nice to meet you guys, and I hope we'll see you again soon. Here's a couple of pictures - they would have been a little better composed if it hadn't been so freakin' cold.

Yep! We have some more pictures, but haven't uploaded them yet. Nice to meet you all, Doug and his Wife are crazy and Mark was kind enough to lay some rubber in that parking lot. See you all again soon.

Fellow Delawarean Here....(Newark) This is actually my first post. Just bought a used 02 mcs. Starting to worry that previous owner may have beat on it a little. Would like to meet up with Justin, or anyone close to Newark to get their opinion. And, I ordered a black tag.. $75, and DMV must have a 5 digit tag available. I also just found out one of my rims is bent and need to find one, and could use help. SSR GT1 18x7.5 (discontinued). Seller didnt tell me about bent rim.

Hubs,
Ouch, that's rough, What makes you think the car was abused before?? Any odd engine problems?

I'm actually in Newark too, so we could all meet up sometime and look over you car and contrast/compare.

Where did you buy it? What Color? Etc. Etc.

The whole black tag thing. You have to get the tag before you can order a black one. It must be lower than 86999 in order to be eligible for a black tag. Has DMV found you a low tag number yet?

Hub,

Congrats on the MINI.

Have you tried Tire Rack for the Wheel. There web site shows it. Give them a call. They might have one laying on a shelf waiting for a home.

If you are interested in meeeting a bunch of fellom Miniacs, we (phillymini/Smallwonders) are putting together a run March 18. We will be starting in West Chester near Otto's MINI. and hitting are the twisties we can find, plus a few covered bridges. We are ending the run with a late lunch at Jose's Border Cafe. Near the Christiana Mall.

So if you are interested let us know.

Again welcome
Dan

Hey,
Well, I bought the car from a guy in VA Beach who advertised it is immaculate. The body is nice, but I had to replace windshield, and there was one bald tire. The interior is ok, but the seats are all scratched on back. The reason I think it is abused, is that he didnt tell me one of the rims was bent, and the car has an awful lot of rattles for 34000 miles. I'll have to compare it to yours.. My co-worker has a brand new mini convertible and it rides much better...The 18inch rims dont help, but they look good. Tire Rack is sold out of those rims and they are discontinued..I posted in the wheel forum sponsored by Tire Rack looking for help. Black Tag--I got a 5 digit tag when I registered in DE, and I ordered the black tag. And finally, I was able to post some pics.... May be up for the mini gathering..I definitely like talking cars.

Wow, I post one of my first messages and end a thread that had been going for 2 months! Sorry if I said something wrong. Anyway, I test drove another mini, 2005 model, and decided mine isnt in that bad of shape. Also, was able to find a used SSR wheel in Illinois after 7 hours searching on internet. After driving both minis, I wouldnt recommend 18 " wheels.. They look good, but the ride is too harsh.( and they bend) Well, if you see a silver Mini in Newark, with small flames on the side, it's me.

Hub the thread killer.

I'm glad to hear that you found a wheel. We have the stock 16 on on our cooper, and execpt for the run flats it is a good ride. I would like to find a set of wheels in hte near future. I think we ae going to stick with the 16 just for the ride quality. I like the flame graphic you have on the side.

My wife is in newark every day so if you see a purple haze and white, she will be the one waving like mad.

See the threads not dead.

OK, let me try to kill this thread again.. I wish I found this site before buying the MINI.. Probably wouldnt have bought one with 18" rims. Very rough ride, but looks cool. The seller also is responsible for the flames, and also the big stereo system..note picture of subwoofer and amp in trunk. Can't wait for new rim, so I dont look like an idiot with the bent rim anymore, and also cant wait for warm weather...... Car is usually parked 2 lots behind Iron Hill Brewery, if in Newark. Sold my VW GTI (with lots of mods) Sunday, so time to fix up the MINI.... going to get the pulley from Lucky Dog Garage this month and a CAI. I drove an 05 mini, and mine seemed a little underpowered. Just a little

Hubs!
I saw you going down Main Street a few weeks ago. I was actually in a B/W MC from Otto's because my DS/B was getting somme maintainence done. I waved but not sure if you saw me, I recognized your green flames.

I work in Newark and I'm usually on Main Street during lunch most days, so give me a shout if you see me.

You'll love the Pulley upgrade, I've heard it makes a world of a difference.
Do you go to UD?

See you around

I work in Newark in the Industrial Park near the new BJ's (old Caldor)!
For some reason, I assumed you were a college student, I graduated from UD in 2001 but I still love the town, always new things to do and plenty of cool restaurants to eat at.

We need another meet, fish, hubs, blakc, what do you say?
