My Royal Grey Duchess has arrived!

Hello everyone, after many weeks of waiting and anticipation I finally took delivery of my Royal Grey Mini Cooper on Friday. I noticed how there weren't too many personal Royal Grey pics circulating, so I thought this would be the perfect time for me to contribute.

Now about my first impressions. I love how the car handles (very responsive steering), but has anyone also noticed that when driving down concrete freeways with grooves running down the lanes the car often shifts from side-to-side causing your head to weave in and out?? I know it's not the wind because as soon as I hit asphalt, that behavior stops. Anyone driving on SoCal freeways experiencing this??

Congratulations on your new beauty!

Yes, MINIs and their stock tires are notorious for trammeling.

(And mine do "catch and hold" the road and prevent "free movement")

Huh. What exactly do MINIs trammel?

Main Entry: 2trammel
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): -meled or -melled; -mel·ing or tram·mel·ling /'tra-m&-li[ng], 'tram-li[ng]/
1 : to catch or hold in or as if in a net : ENMESH
2 : to prevent or impede the free play of : CONFINE
synonym see HAMPER

(Mine will sometimes tramline a bit, but that just keeps things interesting. )

She is a beauty! Congrats!

My mini does the same here in Germany. You will get used to it over time and I suspect better tires would alleviate the issue. Are they performance tires or all season? I have the performance tires. With that said, my wife's Subaru does the same with her new performance tires.

If you have runflats, they are notorious for tramlining. This is what's going on:

And congratulations on your new Mini!

What a beauty!!! Love that color. Our '05 has the trammel effect, and you will get used to it.

I'm glad I clicked to check out that beautiful car. I'd been wondering why my car was suddenly darting around, I never heard of tramlining before. I was gettin ready to get an alignment and my brakes checked

Beautiful car. I haven't seen this color in real life yet. In the photos it looks darker than DS but maybe it is a colder gray?

The photo of the rear of the car is scary though. Did the building in front of you have an accident?

Acutally the Royal Grey is a warmer, slightly darker gray...It's a very lovely color....if you want classy, this is your color.

Cheers

Awesome looking MINI!!!! Is that a silver roof or white? Hard for me to tell given the lighting.

It's gotta be silver--you can't get RG with a white roof yet.

Welcome to NAM, miniskini and congrats on your beautiful new Duchess! What a royal beauty!

You are experiencing what is called "tramlining," due to the pattern of your tires and the grooves in the roads to prevent slipperiness when it rains. You'll get used to it!

What a beaut! Yeah, I have the same freeway experience too. Glad to know it's normal, and not something funky going on.

You think the trammeling is bad on those grooved freeways, wait till you cross a high drawbridge with that horrible jagged metal grating....about a 5 on the "pucker" meter...or a 10 if you're on a motorcycle.

Cheers

All of you guys with new RG 06's make me want to trade my PW! I love this color, too bad I was half a year too late... I hope my MINI can't hear me in the garage.

very, very nice! You are so helping me build my case (against myself) for RG!

can you please post a few more, esp getting the silver roof into play?

the silver looks much better than I thought it was going to on the RG!

Congrats on the car; it's beautiful! I can't wait to see the new colors in person. I have yet to see royal grey, solar red, or space blue.

Reminds me of the new Stata Center at MIT:

I will have to get back to you on that. The weather here has been cloudy, but maybe that will enhance the color of the roof? I'll have to take some more pictures. I still haven't seen a new Mini with my color yet, we are a rare breed I guess!

That's a great looking MINI!

Yeah, I have an '06 MCS and definitely noticed the tramlining on the local freeways here. You get used to it, but it's really disconcerting at first.
