Sounds awesome! The PW is such a great color, I can't believe they didn't offer it for the MCS right from the start.

Tear up those Italian switchbacks for me! Where in Italy are you exactly? I think the best driving experience of my life was on a Tuscan road

Twisties!

Thanks,

I am in Gaeta, between Roma and Napoli on the Tyrrenian coast.

I am taking advantage of the twisties on my bike right now! But I will be transferring soon. I am praying for no strikes, fires and lots of overtime for the folks in Oxford so that I can at least break in the engine while still in Italy!

My sister just returned from Sicily and gave me the keys to my own tiny studio apartment in a historic neighborhood called Ortigia. I haven't been there yet, but hope to be able to see it (Sicily) someday. Oh well.

I am expecting delivery of a PW/B MCS in May in California. I was going to get an all PW car, but saw a photo of one on NAM that was PW/B and that did it. I do not believe I have seen an all PW car on NAM yet. Have fun in that beautiful country!

Sicily / PW Color

Sicily is nice. I spent some time in Catania, Augusta and Messina. (East coast of Sicily.) There is a little town called Savoca, where they shot some scenes of The Godfather. I visited the old town, which is on top of a steep mountain (beautiful!), and almost got the minivan stuck numerous times in the alley-ways where the roads narowed to one-way status several times. There were times when there was only about 3/4 inch of space between the stone walls and both sides of the Villager! At times I thought I'll have to take the van apart to get it back down. - Next time I'd take the Mini!

I initially ordered a black Mini with white top, but changed the order. Picking the color was the toughest part of the order.

THEY LOOK GOOD IN ALL COLORS!!!!!

This is ours from Feb '03. Also SeaShelly has a PW/PW MCS, which I saw around here once, and there are a couple of other PW/PW cars wandering around.

Yup, fellow IDC gone PA. But it was a bad time to be a PA. They locked me in a room and threw patients at me all day long! So when I was accepted to grad school I bailed, intending to come back after getting my doc as a GS-97 and retire after 7 years.

Funny thing was I met a Vermonter and fell in love. Got married instead of returning to the service. Moved to a place with no ocean! Ah well, those dusty old medical skills come in handy with the livestock. Delivered nine lambs in the past week, sutured up a dog, and corrected my wife's hip pain. Not a bad skillset for a rural lifestyle!

Take care, and enjoy your Mini!

Pete

Absolutely right! I also wanted black with white top and thought I would never be able to keep it clean (and MINIs don't look good dirty). At one time I tried all the colors and, of course, blamed MINI for discontinuing Indi Blue.

There is an Italian movie from about 5 years ago called Malena that was filmed in Siracusa (the Ortigia neighborhood). Gorgeous. And Antonioni's L'Avventura was filmed in the south and focused on Noto. I have never been to Italy, but have seen many movies and read many books (especially histories).

Have fun while you are there.

Thanks for posting the photo. The Cooper looks sparkling in PW. I saw a PW/PW MCS today and unfortunately, it was dirty. But, just my opinion, I think the Cooper looks better in PW than the MCS. Actually I think the Cooper is a better looking car than the MCS because of the sleek bonnet.

Cooper style vs. Cooper S

I respect your opinion. I thought about the simplicity of the Cooper styling also, and I do love it! Even the clean look of the "fuel hole", and the simple rear bumper/skirt.

I myself was planning on the Cooper, but then during the ordering process my wife unexpectadly asked "wouldn't you prefer the 'S' instead?". So the other side of the brain kicked in and ended up checking ALL the little blocks on the order form.

Despite the clean styling, noone can argue with more power.

HMC,

I was on 6th Fleet Staff in Gaeta from 92 - 94 when they were on Belknap. Great town. I really miss the people and the food! Especially miss being able to walk everywhere. Pizzaria Rustica for lunch and Attratinos or Il Nostromo's for dinner.

Good luck keeping the car in one piece while you are there. We had 3 accidents in the 2 years we were there - all someone else running into us. I took delivery of a US spec Volvo 850 T-5 the first year they came out. Parked it in a garage for 3 months for fear of messing it up. Drove it up to Vincenza for shipping back to the states. Made the trip in 3 1/2 hours at 120mph in the left lane on the Autostrada. It actually took me longer to get home on the train than the drive up.

If I were there, the first thing I would do after break in is head down to Naples and hit the Amalfi drive on a weekday. Send us some pics!

Whera re you coming back to in the States?

[QUOTE=morknmini](and MINIs don't look good dirty)

Agreed. We have a LY/B MCS and when it's dirty, I just can't stand it! unfortunately, at the moment, from the back it looks like a black/black

Smart wife! Yep the power. That's why I ordered an MCS (admittedly and MCSa because several streets in my town are steep and crowded and I have mis-shifted on them before). But there are a few NAM Coopers that are gorgeous (someone has a blue one with white top and white after-market wheels and white bonnet stripes that accentuate that seductively sloping shnozzola--is that an Italian word?).

If you ever get to Capri I hope you are able to see the Villa Malaparte (of course I only know if from books--but it has been called the world's most enigmatic house) which was described by its owner and creator, the controversial author Curzio Malaparte, as "a house like me" and praised by famous designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Arata Isozaki, Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, etc. It appeared in the Bridgit Bardot/Jack Palance movie La Mepris. For a long time its architect, Adalberto Libera, was given full credit even though it was inconsistent with the rest of his work, but later scholarship revealed that its owner, Malaparte, made significant changes. It is now a foundation and is probably best seen from a boat although there is supposed to be a thrilling road that winds to just above it--definitely sounded like a MINI sort of drive.

Ciao.

Small (MINI) World

Thanks for the good word!
I have a friend Roby (Pizze Ninja) who works at Pizzeria Rustica and we all frequent the other spots too!

I am also on the C6F staff. (For now)

I rode the Amalfi coast on my bike! It is heaven! Plus the view!!!

I hope to do it in "Q-Ball" too. (Yes I came up with a name for the all P/W Mini)

I am gonna miss this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
