Driving in snow!

Matilda eats this white crap for lunch! No problem in snowy conditions , 2 to 3 inches in depth... No snow tires , riding with original stock... Being retired , didn't feel it was necessary to get new wheels and tires. I just don't drive in any depth ... Much better on snow covered roads than my BMW 1 series with snow tires and designated wheels...
Greetings to all of

my Roadster friends !
I love this car..

John, glad to see you're still liking the car! I drive mine every day, so I have full snow tyres and have no problems at all with the "white crap" like we got today...

I'm guessing that those "original stock" tires are all-season.

Last year I felt the same way as you John.

This year has been really tough for me..

I bent a rim on the pike. Really glad I had the all-season Continental run flats on cause a regular tire would have blown out. Nothing worse than sitting in the brake down lane freezing your but off.

MINI Dealer was able to straighten it for $150.00.

That said my Blizzaks are sitting in the garage. I keep thinking it's almost over then we get hit with another foot of snow.

Anyway fingers crossed I'm getting light weight wheels and ultra high performance tires in the spring, then I'll put the Blizzaks on the OEM rims.

Andy

Hi Andy,
Tire companies are making a lot of money this winter. Again, I am very pleased with my roadster; God willing I will turn it over for a new roadster in about two more years...before the warranty expires... That's the plan...
My advantage is that I can pick and choose when I take it out in bad weather... Otherwise I would have designated rims / tires, like you... It has been excellent in 2/ 3 inches of snow..
I'm dying to ride top down, but, as you know, only a couple of days qualified..and I would have risked a mud sandwich ...
Best,
John

Hey John,

My wife got a face full when we went through a big puddle last week.

I had to stop I was laughing so hard.

I dooo love her..

Andy

Oh yea,

I seem to get a new car every time the warranty runs out but this time, I think I may have a keeper, would really like to see it become a classic. Who knows I really like that new car smell, even though it only lasts a few minutes when you buy a roadster...

This is an interesting thread to me because I've wondered how the '14 MINI hardtop might fare in the northeast snow.

That's what I have done recently too, get rid a couple of thousand before the end of the warranty, but maybe not this time. If I can get into one of the last ones before they stop production for the right money I might switch for a JCW, otherwise I'm keeping this one!

If our R59 did just fine this winter I don't see how the hard top would be any worse... I keep saying it. A set of good snow tires and the majority of cars will handle snow very well.

They are great in the snow with about 70% of the weight over the front wheels.

Is Mini planning to stop production of the roadster? I hope they continue for at least two more years so I can buy a new one!!

With the introduction of the new F56 they are on the path to refresh the whole range over the next few years. Expect to see the Clubman, the Convertible and the Roadster and Coupe to change sometime in the next two to four years.

You may have a couple of years to get your new one, I'm thinking of doing the same if I'm not keen on the replacement car.

If they truly retire the Coupe and Roadster in 2016-17, I'll make sure I get one before they go.

I'm looking at a 135i, how is it in the snow with snow tires?

It doesn't mean it's going to get axed . . . it just says there is no plans yet.
Essentially there's no plan to make the next gen as of yet... And it's possible if it continues to sale they may keep the roadster in production as is for some time...

They can't keep presses running for too many generations at once. My prediction is that the current incarnation of our car and the Coupe will end when the Convertible changes over to an F56 based model. The only question is whether they will be replaced, and if so in what form.

I have one of the first roadsters off the line. I think, if I were to get another, I would try to get one of the last ones. They would make good bookends!

I guess that's probably true especially for MINI. I don't think they have multiple assembly lines... Big manufacturers like Ford for example don't care so much about that. As long as it sales they keep running it...

Article didn't mention the possibility of a sports car... I'm pissed... The roadster ( or sports car variant ) is the only Mini I'm interested in ...

. I heard they were going to do a 7 year run and then call it. I did here they were talking about a hardtop roadster that was a little sportier. Guess we'll have to wait and see
