Hi all,
My local mini dealer has a 2015 two door hardtop for sale. Automatic transmission, 52,000 miles, extremely clean. I have not had a prepurchase inspection yet, but test drive was great. They’re asking $12,400.
Two questions:
1. does this seem like a reasonable deal?
2. is there any reason to avoid this particular year and model? I.e., are there any known issues I should look out for? I am concerned that the automatic transmission (steptronic?) could end up being a can of very expensive worms down the road.
thanks for any advice.

Get the service history and see what has been done. I don't think the price is out of line but you should consider a warranty if you can get one at a reasonable price and you plan to put a lot of miles on the car.

According to Carfax, it seems to have had fairly regular service, with the notable exception that it went from 31,000 miles to 52,000 miles without an oil change, unless the owner did it in his backyard.

Carfax misses a lot of the action and doesn't tell you the specifics. Have the dealer provide you with a printout of all work done on the car. Post it up here and we can all pitch in and tell you our collective wise thoughts. lol

Front control arms are replaced often on these cars under warranty. You might want to make sure that was done. Drive it over speed bumps and listen for clunking, that will tell you if it needs repair. Mechanically mine has been pretty good, although I have low miles on the car. Check the tires and the brakes, both can wear out quick on these cars. I think the transmissions are pretty solid.

The price seems good to me.

I don't know much about specific issues for the year though. I know new MINIs come with 3 years service so IF they started that in 2015, it should have been pretty well maintained. If the car was maintained at a MINI dealership, it would be good to check their records too. Lots of times, there'll also be suggestions on service records so you can see if there's something like "suggested changing rotors - owner declined" or whatever.

I had a 2015 2-door hardtop S, with the automatic steptronic transmission. It was my daily driver for almost five years. I purchased new, and put 84,000 miles on it. Never had a mechanical issue in all those miles.

Don't know about the automatic, but I recently bought a 2015 2-door hardtop from a Mini dealer as well. Mine had 53K miles, clean carfax, and was very nice. The dealer was originally asking $13,995. I test drove it, tried to negotiate the price lower, but they wouldn't budge so I walked away. A month later the car was still there so I offered $12,500 and they accepted the deal. I insisted the deal include a free navigation map update (normally $500), and they agreed.

Not sure about your options, but I felt mine was a good deal at $12,500. This was the thread I posted when I bought it. The thread includes pictures and a copy of the original window sticker showing the options.

2015 Mini purchase

My wife also has a 2015 Mini. She has the 4 door hardtop, bought it new, and it has the automatic transmission. Hers has not given us any problems so far.

Good luck!

The F56 is a pretty good MINI and the auto trans is smooth. Depends on options and condition the car is in. Post up some pics and people will give more feedback.

I bought a 2015 4 Dr hardtop, automatic trans, all black, with 32,000 miles, from a local dealer, here in Northern CA, a month ago. I paid closer to $14,000, probably due to the low mileage. Mine does not have the upgraded nav system, though I wish it did. It came with 17 inch stock wheels, which is an upgrade, and a few other options. I much prefer the look of the MC with the larger wheels and tires. It runs great. Because Mini has a questionable reputation re: reliability, I did purchase an extended warranty, for peace of mind. Good luck with your 2015 MC.
