We just drove home with the Greenest Mini: A Plug-in Hybrid Mini Countryman in British Racing Green! It doesn’t get greener than that!

We previously owned the Pan-Am Mini, a Gen I R52 Convertible that I did loads of work on. But when we moved to a colder, wetter climate, the Convertible had to go.

We looked at all the other plug-in hybrids and hybrids, like Prius Prime, Subaru Crosstrek and RAV4. The Prius costs less and gets far better mileage... the Subaru is charming, and the RAV4 has that Toyota dependability, and is far larger. Yup... they were practical.

But there’s no question, the Mini is the only one that puts a smile on our faces when we get in. This car is fun, fun, fun to drive, super-comfortable, it has 4WD when the weather gets bad and room for our bikes. And it’s British Racing Green! I found a GE Wattstation on eBay for about $200 (they were $800 new), so I’ll soon have a great-looking, wall-mounted fast Charger in the garage.

I think this is pretty exotic as far as Minis go: The BRG color is pretty rare, as is the plug-in model. It sports a unique yellow-colored S logo and the Charger port is hidden beneath the driver’s side scuttle.

It looks like it’s going to be a challenge to find technical how-to’s on this car, so I might have to create them myself... if anybody else has one of these. :-)

It’s hybrid. It’ll work just fine if you never, ever plug it in. But since we have a charger in our garage, we
won’t fill the gas tank very often.

Darn progress!

 

It’s not an electric car. It’s a plug-in Hybrid. You can run this on gas and never plug it in. I drove my Prius Plug-in from San Francisco to Salt Lake City and back again... never plugged in once.

But if we do plug in at night, most of the next day’s driving is all-electric, so we can go 1,000 miles on a tank of gas.

 

My next car purchase will be plug-in too.

I am wondering if you plug in every night & the tank of gas lasts forever, do you need to worry about the gas degrading into varnish & clogging injectors? This might be a marketing opportunity for someone to sell long storage gas!

 

In real use, it doesn’t happen. It hasn’t happened to me in 7 years of owning a plug-in Hybrid. A friend told me that the components which evaporate first are the additives, and so filling with Premium gas helps to prevent it from happening.

I wish they had a hybrid 2d MCS (or this was a year later and the electric one was launched). The green looks great and makes perfect sense!
