When I took delivery of my Mini last July they were running a 1.9% APR special that I really wanted to take advantage of. We had already agreed on pricing so I asked if I could come up and sign the papers before the end of July even if the car didn't make it until the first day or two of August. I know that isn't necessarily the wisest move but I felt the risk was worth it given the incentive (3.25% was the best I did in my shopping around of banks). Also my wife was leaving town at the beginning of August so it saved us from the possibility of them having to hold onto the car until she returned to co-sign. In the end we signed the papers the last week of July and the car was dropped off two days later with pick up two days after that (still in July) so it turned out to be unnecessary but if those incentives are really important it might be worth checking with the dealer to see if they would do something similar. Again, you're taking a bit of risk doing this so it might not be a great move.

(They must have liked getting the deal done at the end of the month because when we showed up to sign the papers they knocked another $1000 off the price without us ever asking about it.)

My incentive situation is actually the opposite as the incentive right now is not particularly good ($500) and the same that it was when I placed the order in April. I was originally expecting it to be better in June but made the deal being okay if I was stuck with the $500. My original reason for the timing was in the hopes of a better incentive in June as well as the expiration of my current lease. Due to circumstances I won't get into, I can manage without a car for a couple of weeks so delivery in early July is fine from a practical standpoint. Assuming the incentive doesn't go up the last week in June (which from what I've heard MINI has been known to do), I was just saying even if the car comes in I might wait a couple of days to take delivery in the hopes that the relatively low $500 incentive increases (I doubt it will go down). JasonMa's post now has me considering whether there might also be potential for a better financing rate.

Thanks, yes, fun, and certainly helps deal with/distract from agony of waiting 2 months so see my new car......

Besides the other distraction of looking at websites like your and modding my car in my head.....

Yes, too many distractions. People have to know that placing an order for a MINI and meeting its friend the mod bug is a perfect match.

With only a $500 incentive, I'd be hard pressed not to gamble on something better when July hits. Certainly can't get worse although, I think I saw a $250 incentive when I bought my 2015.

I had a similar deal with my BMW purchase. Mine wasn't incentives but was the trade in value of my Corvette and the end of the year. It was an odd deal. Florida law requires trade-in be done in the same calendar year as you take delivery of your new car.to save sales tax on the new car purchase. I wasn't sure whether my new BMW would arrive prior to the end of 2016. If I traded the Corvette (which I wasn't driving) at it's appraised value and the BMW arrived in 2017, I could not use it's trade value to off-set sales tax. If I held it waiting for arrival, the car would/could lose trade in value when it was re-appraised. I held it and lost $500 on the reappraisal. Dealer could not write the deal prior to the BMW's arrival...but as things turned out, I got an additional incentive when the BMW arrived., so it was a wash in the end.

A thread like this is interesting to hear the nuances of incentives, trades and such....quite enjoyable and enlightening.

Ship is still sitting in port. Arrived early yesterday in Baltimore. Late in the day appears to have moved to a port called Dundalk, which looks to be so close to Baltimore that I am left to wonder whether it's actually the same place. In any event, not really any closer to Georgia. Hoping for some movement by the end of the day. My expectation is one more stop in South Carolina and then on to Brunswick, but that's really just guess work.

Probably will leave later today I'd guess....at least Georgia is not that far away, compared to journey from Panama Canal to Oxnard, CA.......

Mine did the same thing. Stopped on one side of the bay and moved to the other. I think that is normal for different cargo unloading. It should be setting to sea shortly. Mine came straight to Brunswick from there.

You were right, in route to Brunswick with a scheduled arrival of Sunday morning.

Excellent news. Shouldn't bee too much longer now. Mine actually seemed to make better time on the last leg of the journey. A couple of days at the VPC and a truck assignment and she'll be on her way to the dealership.

The Plot Thickens.......................................... .....................

Yeah, the assistant GM at my dealership told me that they tell people five days from arrival in Brunswick until the car is delivered and prepped for pickup by the customer but that it's usually two days and they say five to be conservative. If what she said is true, I'll take delivery next weekend.

Lucky you!

Hope you see your MINI next weekend!

Meanwhile, my ship seems to have gone back into the Bermuda Triangle since leaving the Panama Canal 4 days ago....

No updates since then on the marine traffic website. Only info shown is ETA for a Mexico port stop tomorrow, 6/25.

Hope that it shows up then and that the ship's location starts getting tracked again.

It shows my ship, Altair Leader arriving on Saturday, 6/29. This is what my sales person told me about 2 weeks ago.

Hopefully, it will arrive on that date.

If so, by time car gets through the VPC, then onto a truck, and then get up to in Bay Area, and dealer calls that it's ready for me, etc, I assume it will be week of July 7th....worst cast week of the 14th.

Don't despair, it will show up. I don't know but for some unknown reason, ships lose contact with the tracker. The tracker works best when when ships are close to shore, if they veer out into the shipping lanes there is no information to report. Happens when ships hit the Atlantic, they show the last known location (usually off the coast of Ireland), and then suddenly appearing off the US coast..

Betting your ship is out in the lanes and will appear when it gets close to your POE. Shouldn't be long now.

Bringing my car into Mini tomorrow for the wheel swap. Could not find a local place to do it. They want you to buy tires or wheels before they do anything.

As a side note, never thought I'd like the HUD.....love it. Get to see my digital speed shown as digits on the HUD and set my dash info to show speed limit signs. Loving the new car smell too.

Picked up a pair of these mats off Amazon.. The gray in the mats picks up nicely the gray interior. The stock black mats showed every pebble, or debris I picked up. New mats show nothing.

Amazon Amazon

Little by little making the car mine...................................
