Buying a new mini

Hi all,

I am very familiar with BMW's and car repairs in general; I do all the work on my own... but this is my first mini.. I am buying a 2012 Mini Cooper s, with around 52k miles, manual. Anything specifically to look for ?

Owner fitted new non-run flat tires (which I like, had them on my 335i and hated them), and did a water pump recall? Other than that, car looks immaculate.

I drove another car yesterday, same generation/options different color. The engine was noisy... had a lot of valve/tappets chatter; is that normal with these cars? My 17 years old Golf GTI is not that noisy, and it has over 200k miles.

Many thanks

Welcome, should be good on the N18 engines. Ditch the runflats ( lucky they did it for you) and get a can or tire repair kit to carry around.

The direct injector system on the engine is noisy.

The 250 miles drive home was great... she flies when pushed. I can hear the turbo slight spooling on the hills, pretty nice. It has a very close ratio gearbox, pretty zippy even in 6th gear...
Her name is "Mini me", as it has black stripes, like my Shelby... she wants to be a shelby when she grows up, hehe. Pics to follow... hopefully it will clear up a bit tomorrow in Boston so I can shoot some nice 45 Mpix shots.
