Voice from the past

I was here in 2004 waiting for my BRG Cooper S to arrive in March...
MY MINI has been very trouble free for 12 years but the HK amplifier has died. so I am looking for help in that area... I put some posts in the ICS first get area and they said awaiting moderation is that because I have not posted in this forum?

It could be because you have been so inactive for a while. You can shoot Gray Raven a message on here and see if he can approve them for you: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ay-raven-.html

Some good info can be found at this link for replacing the HK amp with an aftermarket amp while keeping the factory radio and 2 ohm speakers.

Details of the original poster's install is in post #34. If you don't want to replace your radio and speakers, this is probably the best way to go.

I looked at that but it looses the auto muting of the entertainment for directions from the factory sat nav system I found one person selling new units with 2 year warrantee for about $850 (dealer price is $1050 plus tax)and on fleaBay the ones from parting out wrecks seem to go for about $400 from venders with good scores... I saw on for $325 but the seller had only 2 reports... thats a lot of risk with not much you can too if the unit is also dead... and and how close was it to death when it was removed.... I doubt very much if the MINI dealer will do much for a car they sold over 12 years ago.

thanks Pelican I will, I checked your website but you show $1,248.25 for the replacement which is too much for me on a 12 year old car.... I wish I could find someone repairing these things I bet its just a bad Capacitor or FET on the Power side.... there are folks specializing in the repair of 80s vintage LCD instrument binicals of basically rare cars I am a mazed that some one out there has not set up a cottage industry in his shed with the circuit diagram and doing a repair for 200 to 300 bucks. Of course when I asked HK about getting a circuit diagram they told that as it was obsolete there was none available.

Welcome back windshadow

Some people have had luck with this,

if its something else then the amp will need replaced.

Another option is to use an HK amp from a BMW. Cheaper and easier to find than a MINI unit.

Thanks for the link rkw, some amazing adapting in that thread... but not I think for me I do want to keep the HK features of the system.
my plan looks like this...
1. find a working MINI HK amp to get things running again (I hope for less than $400)

2. find someone to repair my now dead HK amp and keep it in reserve. (Someone Somewhere must repair these things!!!)

3. rinse and repeat swapping the two while a failed one is out for repair

Step 2 is optimistic I know but since I am 67 years old and plan to keep and drive this MINI until I can no longer work the clutch or it becomes totally uneconomic to keep it on the road... thats 20 years if I am optimistic....
