Gearhead Family New to Mini

My wife and I are excited for our first European car purchase. We are typically muscle car people (prior 2005 Pontiac GTO and current 1984 Buick Grand National) but we were looking into something unique. We've had cars to trucks, V8s to H4s, Turbos and Superchargers, autos and manuals, ect.

We finally settled on a 2012 Mini Cooper S with the 6 speed. It has not disappointed.

While we are new to the modern Mini universe, we are well aware of the vast knowledge base of forums such as this. I will glean as much info as I can and possibly contribute some of my own.

Thanks for having us!

G and K

Wow, the '012 MCS looks really nice. Is it factory stock or were there some mods made by the prior owner?

Stock from top to bottom. Looks to be garage kept only driven on sunny days (judging by the underside, history shows it to be a northeast US car). Although I'm a blackout trim kinda guy (if you couldn't tell), I do like the subtle chrome accents. However, I think our tweaking will begin under the hood to get the N18 breathing a little easier. I was considering the scoop intake setup and IC ducting as our first steps.

Buick is for the 1/4.
GMC is to get the Buick to the 1/4.
Ford is the kid hauler.
And, the Mini for the AutoX ????

I Generally stick with GMs because that's where most of my knowledge base and experience lies. But I'm an aircraft engine mechanic by trade so my comfort zone is pretty much non existant.

That Buick Grand National is awesome! I had a friend with one that was wicked fast. I just remember being in it when he had to do some sort of really weird routine to even get the car started! The MINI looks like it's in great shape and it seems it's in great hands. If you ever need anything be sure to let me know. Enjoy!

That's great! Here's a handy application guide for cold air intakes that may help:
