Hello all, noobies first post

Hey everyone, I'm Sly. I live close to Jackson TN, and I purchased an 06 mini cooper S (blue with white top and white stripes) right at a month ago. So far I've installed a 15% reduction pulley, a boost gauge, red m7 intercooler boots, and my size twelve in the right pedal. So far I am in love with the car! It is just jaw dropping compared to the other numerous vehicles I have owned! The cornering speeds, the acceleration, the little tweeks and quarks, its just amazing. Compared to my other two current vehicles ( 1969 f100 390 .060 over w/ cam ect. And a Honda cbr250r) it is earning its place in my driveway quickly.

Anyways I hope to speak with and meet alot of new and helpful people along the way!

P.S.
The mini is now know as Earl. It actually seems to like the name haha.
Pictures as soon as I can get them to load.

Welcome. Take a moment and look up MINIs on the Dragon. It's really close to your home and well worth the time. If you go, stop by the Helix tent and say hello!

Welcome to NAM, Sly! Congratulations on the purchase of your R53! Would love to see some photos of Earl. Any other modding plans?

As of right now, Earl is rocking some v-spoke wheels off of a r84, the 15% pulley, m7 intercooler boots, and some garbage tires lol. So the future will hold new tires, and some koni yellow struts all the way around gotta hit the basics before the crazy mods. Also maintenance first. I need a crank position sensor o-ring, would change, and I'm changing the SC gear oil asap

If needed we have the o-ring 12-14-7-514-983 here. We also provide a lot of great DIY content here if you need help with your maintenance projects. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

For the supercharger oil:

Great thread here on the DIY :

+1 One easy , the other is hard to reach.

The oil is right here: and it does have a noticable smell to it. Part # 12345982

Welcome! Let's see some pics. While you're in there, check out your crank pulley, too.

Hmm never thought about a crank pulley, I figured it would only add a percent or two or reduction

Not for more boost, but because the OEM pulleys self destruct. Although, the "stock" ATI pulley is still about .8% larger. Just make sure you use a dampened pulley or you might have problems later on.

Is the harmonic balancer and the pulley not the same part on minis? I've seen some " 2% reduced crank pulleys" but they look solid, with no rubber or anything like a harmonic balancer would

The ATI dampened pulley looks solid, but has an inertia weight with rubber O-rings inside. The fluid filled dampening pulleys also look solid. The bad pulleys are supposed to be the lightweight billet pulleys that don't dampen crank vibrations.

ATI is about $350 and fluid is about $250. If you change it, do the crank seal, too

I haven't done mine yet, but it's not supposed to be hard. Some people use a removal tool and some don't. The hard part is getting to it, but you're already there when replacing the pulley. They're known to leak so you might as well change it since it's cheap and accessible.

Do you meant the seal on the timing cover, or the block?

This seal between the crank and block described in Fig. 5 of the Pelican Parts how to replace the crank pulley. Pelican has excellent maintenance articles for the MINI.

That's yer timing cover, from what I recall from the bids I've watched the bolt heads that circle the shaft hold a pump inside the timing cover. Oil pump I assume. Take that cover off that the timing cover and pump inside it comes off and that grants you access to the timing chain assembly

No cover to remove, just the pulley, then the seal. Check out this video around 5 minutes in. Not sure if I would remove it with a screw though.
