What clutch/flywheel for me?
What clutch/flywheel for me?
After all these quirky little guesses, (replaced broken and leaking motor mounts), car is still shaking after warming up. It's leaning more and more to hot spots on the fly wheel. Sad thing is, I found out through dealer previous owner had clutch replaced, but neglected to replace flywheel. Makes sense right, rip everything out, but do as little as possible. I'm looking at a grand labour to drop everthing regardless. Does it make sense not to replace everything at once? Sad thing is, clutch shifts beautifully, but if I'm going to be 1000.00 plus, do I just stop at flywheel?
Replacing with the Valeo Clutch and flywheel kit will be more most cost effective solution. That way you will get everything you need including the flywheel without breaking the bank.
Appreciate that, however, that kit won't work, I'm a non-s. Rear seal was done when clutch was replaced, just maddening that they did nothing with the flywheel. So i've basically got a 10000km clutch (6000) miles with a bad, or burnt flywheel. And I imagine converting to a 6spd is a lot more $$$$$
I'm starting to think stupid buyer (me). The whole car is tight, rust free, and low miles. But if I did it again, I could've spent a couple grand more and got an s without this endless wallet syndrome.

Heh, I'm in a similar situation. I just picked up an '04 JCW and its been on jack stands for the past month as I replace steering hoses and a half dozen oil seals on the thing. I knew about the leaking hoses, but that huge mess covered up a leaking oil housing. Now wishing I had talked him down more. Hindsight is 20/20. Fortunately I have a clam to drive while I work on the Mini.
Pretty sure it could be hot spot on the flywheel. I've searched this to death. I only get the chatter when engaging 1st gear, but only after the car is warmed up. Idiot proof when cold, but when it's warm it takes a lot more finesse (or gas) to overcome the chatter/shudder. I had engine mounts replaced, tranny mount was good.
Well, I can say if I have to change the flywheel, it's nickname will be the MONEY COOPER. That's seems to be the problem with these things. They're expensive, but it's hard to replace the fun factor. I drive an 07 tundra 4x4 all week (yawn).
If you need to, the flywheels conversion kit only adds a couple of hundred to the job. I'm not saying it's cheap, or that these cars don't cost you money, but a bad flywheel used to be a $600 add-on. Good luck with the fix.
