Clutch/Flywheel Selection Help 02 r53

Hi everyone,

Sorry I know this is a common topic but I've yet to have a definitive answer to my question.

I have a 2002 r53 Mini S with a slipping clutch and the following mods thus far.

Performance Mods:
  • M7 Power Pac Stage 2
  • k&n Cold Air Intake
  • MSD Ignition
  • Borla exhaust

So now to the question. I'm interested in a clutch/flywheel combo that can handle these mods and maybe a few others shortly down the road. The car is mostly street driven and almost always highway. I like the idea of a firmer feeling clutch pedal as I'm used to driving manual trucks. The following are what I have been debating between
  • APC - BM2-HDSS Clutch and 600315 - XACT Flywheel Streetlite
  • Spec - Stage 1 kit with flywheel
  • Valeo - Solid Mass flywheel and clutch kit
  • CLUTCH MASTERS CLUTCH - fx200 / fx300
  • COMPETITION CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL KIT (STAGE 2)

I'm open to most anything. I just want a slightly firmer feel than stock, something that isn't garbage.. But I'm not looking for a $1500+ setup either.

The Clutch Masters FX300 and Competition options intrigue me, are they a good choice?

I appreciate all reviews and recommendations. I'm glad to see a strong community supporting my new car! I look forward to being more involved in here!

Thanks

For a street car the Valeo kit is ideal and reliable.

If you want something more racey the ACT clutch and ACT lightweight flywheel would be the next step up. After that they are more race clutches than street and won't last near as long.

Stay away from clutchmasters, I will never install another.

The valeo is softer. But you get used to it really quick. I.am very happy how mine turned out.

So, I guess at this point I'm torn between the Valeo and the ACT setup. Is the ACT setup worth the extra money?

I've been happy with the valeo kit in my car. I've run ACT products in other cars and been impressed with the amount of abuse that they can handle. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one but if you want a little heavier clutch I'd go with the ACT.
