New owner of 07 MCS in black

Decided I needed something with a little better fuel efficiency than my Silverado, so I bought an barely used S. I had a blast on the one day I actually got to drive it. I am so looking forward to the keys being in my hand again.

While on vacation in Texas, I found one I liked and took the plunge. Since we were going on vacation, I went ahead and ordered all new filters, wipers and started researching. When I returned, I was able to do the air filter and interior filter, but the not the gas filter. I couldn't get the housing to seperate, so put it back together for another less humid day. Then next day got a Yellow Engine light for all cylinders misfiring.

Before driving it 900 miles home I figured I would get the light diagnosed. So flew home and had the parents drop it off at Mini dealer to get it looked at and the open water pump recall completed. Apparently, dealer tells the parents there is another recall for the timing chain. I was surprised by this, because Mini site didn't have that on the VIN check. So looks like two weeks before they get the parts and that gets done.

Want to say what a great site. I have found out so much info and can't wait to tackle some mods.

Will post pics as soon as I get to see her again.

Congratulations on your MINI!
Was it a recall on the timing chain (if so, for what exactly and what #) or was it on the timing chain tensioner?

Well now things are getting complicated.

Dealer needed maintenance records for the car to do the timing chain under either mini warranty or recall(Not entirely sure what they are categorizing it as because getting second hand info from the parents since they are local and stopping in all the time to check on it). Since I bought it used from a ford dealer, I don't have those. So now the service rep is still trying to get this done by Mini. He has asked the higher ups apparently. Been 3 days of waiting to see.

Of course they recommended the walnut blasting and a couple other things. I conditionally agreed to pay for those services if the chain was done, otherwise no deal. I can take a few days vacation and do everything myself with all the info I have gotten here.

Will give kudos to the service rep for trying to get this done.

Funny thing is I bought a low mileage car (26,500) because thought it would have less issues than a high mileage one.

Keep all of us informed. If MINI will pick up the cost of a timing chain replacement (as opposed to a timing chain tensioner) it will be good news to us many of us.

Good luck. You will love driving this car when you finally get it.

The 2007 Mini was the first year for the second generation = timing chain / tensioner problems. Fix before it malfunctions or you will you real big problems $$$. Good luck!

Well finally got the car back from the dealer and home.

According to the work report it says it was a goodwill for the timing chain, because the car had low miles. It says it is a know issue and recall coming out on timing chain. They said the rails were broken and timing chain deflection at 74.2mm. So they changed it all.

They also did the high pressure fuel pump.

I have really been enjoying driving this car.
