1st post from a future mini owner

I have ordered a 2013 JCW and waiting for it to go into production. My local dealers would not work with me on a price so I ended up ordering from a dealer out of state. Has anybody had experience or know if MINI offers a "courtesy delivery" option?

How far away is it going to be? Fly out and drive it back, thats half the fun.

I will probably end up doing this, and would love to do this, but I'm concerned with engine break-in. It is going to be quite a drive back, nearly 2K miles if I go interstate travel.

Dip on and off the Highway a few times. Give it a few Wide open throttle runs. It won't hurt to drive it back on mostly highway. You can vary speeds even though you're on the interstate. Interesting reading:

That is an interesting read. Has anybody tried that and what was your experience?

I've never tried that approach and Of all the new cars I've ever owned, probably 13 or 14, only one of them had an oil consumption problem that I solved with using Thicker oil. Interesting read though, I don't know that I would try it with anything I bought new. I always worried more about my motorcycles and most of them just said to keep it below a certain amount of RPMs for this first 600 miles.

I have not had many new cars as I tend to keep vehicles for a very long time and just do proper maintenance on them. What I have done in the past is to not keep a constant RPM and keep it below redline. Admittedly the last new car I bought was in 1993 and it is still my daily driver. Lot's of changes in tech since then, it is hard to say what is the "Best way".

My buddy just bought a new CTS-V, which of course is a bit more hardcore than our MINIs and Cadillac suggested not leaving it at a constant rpm, but conducting mixed driving and keeping it under 4k rpm. I did this on my car and it is great!

Greyhound!!!

Hello, Im about to buy my very first MINI. I've only owned VWs so far in over 20 years of driving. When I bought my last GTi the only dealer that would help me find exactly what I wanted (color and options) was out of state, in Vermont. Im in NJ. This guy was patient and searched and searched, expanding is search parameters until he found 2 matches: 1 in Columbus OH and one in Wichita KS. I told him I was ready to charge the deposit over the phone and wire him the balance if he could secure me the car. When he checked with the Ohio dealer, the car had already been sold and hadnt been taken out of inventory yet. That left the one in Wichita. It was available and at a great price since no one in KS was too interested in a silver GTi with heated seats and monsoon sound so all I had to do was figure out how to pick it up. It would have cost too much for the dealer to fly a driver out there, pick up the car, drive it back to VT and have it prepped.
So, I checked with Greyhound and for $60 I took a 36 hour bus-ride (NYC-Wichita) and picked up my GTi.

I was back in NJ with my new car 2 days later.

My point is, almost anything is possible if you really really REALLY want it to happen.
