This is what sold me on keeping my Run Flats, especially as I'm not worried about my own safety as much as protecting my two Boys, as they will be in the car with me on many future occasions I will not only keep my run flats I will replace them in the future with run flats. From what I can tell here in North Florida non-run flats run about $100 to $150 a tire while run flats run about $180 to $240 and I think the extra $100 a tire average is worth my Boy's well being even if the ride isn't as smooth as it could be.

Picked up my MINI this afternoon, put over a 100 miles on her before even got her home!(decided to take the longest curviest route possible home, then some more motoring) Forgot to take pics, will try to get some tomorrow so I can officially graduate.
I was on the fence about a MINI for years, I don't know what took me so long.... So much fun and handles so well!
Spinlock and smurfrod, looking nice! Congrats on graduating!
Off to bed for me, PT comes too early...

1. if your tire gets punctured... you would probably have to get a replacement run flats ($200) versus $10 fix for regular tires.
2. yes, you can drive on run flats but that's not good for your car really... you're basically limping and you can ruin other parts of the car if you drive long time on a flat run-flat. Either way, you want to call AAA.
3. IMO, Mini is a performance car... regular performance tires feels much better.
4. bottom line... regardless, if something happens, you wanna tow it anyway.
I'm sure there will be people that disagree/agree with me.
But I've read plenty of stories where people had bad experiences and having a run-flat didn't really make anything better.... but worst in most cases.
More good information
I do agree that run flats are safer... but i will most definitely get rid of run flats when its time. here are some of my reasons:

This document is old even being updated in 2009 but still some great information overall. Plus as for the sudden blowouts I am 43 years old and driving since I was 16 I've only had 2 massive blowouts that I can think of in my life that have not been a result of slow air loss before the blowout or flat. (Note:both of the blowouts did occur in excess of 80 MPH which does make me consider the run-flats for the thick side walls as both were due to damage in the sidewalls from debris that I never saw. The speed I was travelling at may have had something to do with my lack of seeing the road debris.

Although I was sold on keeping Run Flats based on the extra $400 cost to replace them when they do wear out (about $200 a tire here compared to about $100 a tire for non-run-flats in N Florida area from my favorite Discount Tire store) I may have to agree with going to non-run flats once they wear out.

)My family complained a little about the ride, but I think hey're learning to love it.
Just heard from my MA today that my mini is in at the dealer and I can pick it up tomorrow. Unfortunately, it may take me a few more days before I'm able to get down there but in the meantime I am curious if anyone can clarify something for me. I am trying to get the recent/future college graduate discount and my MA gave me a checklist of requirements that I have to submit to qualify and I have no idea what #6 on that checklist is referring to. It says:
#6 Advance requirements
• New Vehicles
❑ Maximum advance of 95% of MSRP on Retail, Owners'Choice and Select + TT&L
❑ Maximum advance of 100% of MSRP on Lease + TT&L
If anyone can shed light on this I would appreciate it. My MA is selective on what questions he answers. thanks,

something else I forgot to mention is a strange change in the specs grouping on mini usa's website. When I ordered my countryman in mid october, I wanted the anthricite tunnel spoke wheel and I was told that I would have to pay $750 for it, so I opted out and now I see that it is available for $100. Also, I ordered the universal garage door opener which meant I had to also get the dimming rear-view but when I recently saw the mini usa's website had been updated, I decided to try to imitate by build on there. I was surprised to see that selecting the garage door opener also meant adding not only the dimming rear view but also the power folding mirrors and washer for another $500. I thought it was a mistake and I unselected and tried it again a few times but no success; it was all together or none of it. I have emailed and asked my MA but no response yet. Just wanted to throw that out there to anyone else waiting, you may want to try rebuilding your car online to see what pops up!
Just saw the pinned "how to track" thread. It seems I'll need to double back to my MA. I went through this process back in 2003 with my first MINI...it will be interesting to see how it's changed this time.
So I guess I didn't make the Torino, I checked the status today and got a nice "return to shipper" and from searching around that means the boat filled up and try the next one.
Looking at the voyages from Southampton to NY it shows the Turandot leaving Southampton on the 31ts and arriving on the 10th. I hope I make this one.

Mini added quite a few extras into their popular options this year, it seems. Look at the Premium pak now and you have to take the rear warning option now. That puts those stupid little holes in the rear bumper, which I personally hate. Can't someone see six feet to the rear of the car thru the back window, even in a coupe or roadster? I'm not that paranoid, yet.
By the way, when I got my Lil Guy two years ago, I SOLD the runflats as fast as I could. Put a in a GOOD in car portable air compressor for insurance. Never have had to use it yet.
