New in New Mexico
Been browsing on the site for the past few weeks as I've been looking for my first mini. My Dad has owned an 04 for a few years and I fell in love with it the first time I drove it. Now that I commute 32 miles roundtrip to work, and 32 miles roundtrip to the grocery store, I decided that my gas guzzling xterra isn't the only vehicle I need.
I live up in the mountains, in the middle of no where really so looking for a new car was proving VERY difficult for me, and I was looking up to 250 miles away and found only a handful of cars. So, what does any good son do? He gives the task to his Dad who has boatloads of time and loves sniffing out a great deal. Plus, he's the type that will walk away from a purchase if he thinks a car is priced too high by $100 and the seller won't budge. So, when my Dad told me he found a great deal on a Mini, I KNEW it was a good deal! The Mini is a Royal Grey 2006 Mini Cooper and is located in Kansas City (where he lives). He made an offer and the guy accepted it. Apparently, the manual transmission bearing went out at 17k (car only has 17.5k on it) and since he was about to retire, he decided to get a new transmission put in it and then sold the car. As a result, the transmission cost him $3800, so he was quite pissed off about it and wasn't expecting to get his money really out of it so he just wanted it gone, hence how my Dad got a GREAT deal on it! Only have a few pictures of it right now, but if I can't convince my sister to drive it down to me in the next week or two, I'll just fly up to KC and drive it back down!
My Dad rode his road bike out there last night to pick it up, ended up running into quite a few detours and the ride turned out to be 77miles instead of 62 like he was expecting, so it took him an extra hour. He called me once he got it home, said it has fog lights (though it doesn't look like it in the picture), and the mileage calculator said he was getting 41mpg the entire way home! And he only lives at 1000ft elevation; I can't wait to get it up to 9,000ft elevation where I live! :D
I have to say though that the anticipation of getting to drive it for the first time is killing me!
Anyways, glad I found this site and look forward to learning more about the MC as the days drag on until I get to drive mine!

Very nice car congrats!!
Cloudcroft is awesome, never met anyone who lived there, but I have been through many times (grandparents were in Carlsbad and Aunt was in Las Cruces) when I was growing up. Enjoy the MINI you have some great roads to drive it on.

Thanks! I can't wait to drive it every day to work: 16 miles there and 16 miles back on twisty mountain roads with no traffic...what more could a person ask for?!
It was either a mini or a fit and the mini's are just more fun to drive!

Well, it's official! I have my MINI!!!
Royal Grey with Park Lane Interior, Panther Black Leather Seats (with white piping), and Premium Package! :D
The drive is much nicer than my Dad's 2004, and I like the layout of the interior more on mine. He's already trying to buy it from me, lol.
Best part is, I'm getting consistently 40.5mpg! But this is definitely one heck of a fun car to drive!
