New '11 MCSc owner in Knoxville
Hey guys, just wanted to say hi. I'm Dan, and my GF and I just bought a new Cooper S Cabrio, and we're both absolutely in love with it.
I've historically been a Toyota owner -- I've owned a selection of Supras, about 8 in all (including one I got up to about 400 rwhp).
(Splitting into multiple posts due to the excess of links).

I've also owned a few old Civics (including one I cow-spotted, and an Evo.
But through all of it, I've always longed for a convertible. I came close with my '87 Supra Turbo Targa, but I only had it for a few months before I had to sell it due to an overseas move.

My last car was an '09 Scion xD, which I purchased for its cheap price, good fuel economy, and ability to (barely) tow a trailer when my band goes on tour.
The Scion served me well, but it was disappointing in several ways. Legroom was an issue -- I'm not tall (5'10"), but even with the driver's seat all the way back, my legs still felt cramped after about half an hour of driving. Also, it handled like a boat, even after adding a rear swaybar and lowering springs.
Lately I've been really wanting to finally scratch the convertible itch that's been hounding me for 10 years. Last week I started looking at another car I've always had my eye on, a 350z convertible. It was definitely fun, but my girlfriend has a 7-year-old son, and so a 2-seater would really make it hard to orchestrate our outings.
Still, Thursday I had just about convinced myself that I could live with the sacrifice, so I took all the mods out of my Scion and we got up bright and early on Friday to go back to the Nissan dealer and take the 350 home.
But on the way there, my girlfriend pointed out that I've always spoken highly of Minis too, and maybe we should go test drive one before pulling the trigger on the Z car, just for the sake of completeness. So we headed over to the Mini dealer and took a ride in a MCS Cabrio. It only took me a few minutes to realize I loved the car -- the mile-wide grin on my face was my first clue.
To cut an already long story short, a few hours later we drove home in my shiny new 6-speed '11 Horizon Blue MCS cabrio, and I'm still absolutely convinced I made the right decision. On paper it may not be quite as fast in a straight line or around turns as my old Evo, but it feels no less fun at all, and the ragtop, six-speed, tiny, nimble size, and ability to carry the whole family makes it well worth it. It's my perfect car, and I'm really glad to have joined your ranks

(Sorry about the multiple posts, I just hated to remove all those pictures from my post after going to all the trouble to collect them when drafting it

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Yep, back in college (Clemson, SC, around 2002-2003) I visited Deals Gap in that 400hp Supra with my car club, but the car (and my driving abilities) weren't really suited to the experience.
I also ride motorcycles (an '06 Ninja 250), and have been tempted to head down there on that, but never have in the 3 years I've been in Knoxville. It'd be fun as hell to drive it in the MCS. My band's going on tour in late April, so we'll have to see whether the dates conflict, but I think that'd be a great opportunity to head down there if not. Is there a website or thread with details?
BTW, today my new wheels and tires arrive, which should make the car a little more recognizable, so if you see a HzB MCSc with 17" Enkei EV5's, give me a wave
Of course I'll be posting pictures once I've got the wheels on the car.

I always meant to put them on my Scion but the stock wheels looked good enough and I couldn't bring myself to spend the $1000+. When I bought the Mini, I decided the time was finally at hand

Opted to skip the run flats and go with the well-recommended Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110's. Wheels + Tires + TPMS sensors + (free) mount & balance + shipping = $1350. Not bad -- way cheaper than any of the 17's offered from the dealer as options, and this way I've still got a fully mounted set of 16's to use as spares, or I can put snow tires or race tires on the 16's down the road if I should so choose.
Can't wait. Checking the UPS tracking page every 20 minutes. Of course it still says "Out for delivery" but you never know. Maybe I missed the doorbell.

There's also a dedicated forum on this board.
Here's the Tire Rack page for them: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...4467700138HBML

Welcome! Great looking cabrio!
I had a 1981 Supra, which was the more rounded body style. I wasn't much to look at, but that inline-6 engine would haul-a$$. Well, at least it seemed like it did to a college kid.

Get a trailer and haul the 250 up there with the MINI. I've seen some serious knee dragging on the baby Ninja over the past 20 years of going up to the hill.
Yep, and I'm super happy with them. Here's some pics of my car with them on:
