Week 40 of 2009 Super Support Thread
Well I just got back from showing a few friends Tui. The car drives awesome! It is so similar to my 2003 JCW, but so so different. Much quieter, not a squeak or rattle, much more powerful it seems, softer ride, but handles just as great!
The H/K sound system is awesome! I thought for sure I would have to fix some door buzzing from the bass, but it doesn't rattle a thing! I am really surprised and thankful. The bass is great. So glad I got the H/K. I'll take a picture, but with the anthracite headliner, the H/K tweeter trim is piano black! Looks sharp.
I am really impressed with the fit and finish and find it of a much higher quality than my 2003. The backs of the front seats are fabric now, instead of the hard plastic, but it does look pretty good. I only had one problem. I went to bring the passenger seat forward, and the grab handle on the back of the seat back stopped working! I took a further look and found the cable had popped out because it wasn't snapped in. I snapped it back and it works fine now.
After my long drive tonight, the only interesting noise was a faint hum in the engine compartment. It's the electric water pump cooling the turbo down. COOL!
Off to read all my manuals now.

I agree. The bass is very robust. no rattle or buzzing even when the volume is all the way up. I counted 8 speakers. 4 on front doors, 2 tweeters, and 2 on the back seats. where are the other two speakers?
The Don Carlos is off...
Well, for those of us still watching and waiting, the Don Carlos has completed its work at Port Hueneme and is off to South Korea. Picking up? Delivering? I guess we no longer have an interest...
Quite a trip...

Dean,
Your car looks fantastic, congratulations! I have just about given up on my JCW at this point. The OL still shows my car at the VDC. So lets see that’s 3 + days to install a gauge that is billed @ 1 ½ hours. Not to mention 14 + days at the port total. Maybe at this point I should look at the JCW's on the dealer’s lot! If I had been told it would take so long for the gauge install I would have passed. Looks like I may be the last week 40 person to one day receive his car. I am also one of the closest in proximity with the port and dealer, go figure.

I've been out of town away from the car since the day after we brought it home. Can you imagine that?
Now I'm home from a conference in DC where I got to see Foreigner and Earth, Wind, and Fire in concert. 2nd row. I know, weird combination. But they had to appeal to all the people attending the conference.
So I get home and today got to drive it to work for the first time.
I'm gonna get a speeding ticket. I'm going to start saving up for it now.
and ClockworkTomato....yes the HK was well worth it.
What an awesome car. I still need to get more comfortable with the shifting pattern of a 6 speed. I've gone from 5th to 4th twice now instead of to 6th. That will wake you up.
Motor On my Mini Brothers and Sisters.

So I learned a few more things about my car today. When I unlock my car with the key fob buttons, I will hear the high pressure fuel pump energize briefly. Maybe to ensure a quick start up? It's a cool sound and interesting.
I took a peak under the car today too and noticed that the lower rear control arms are now black. Prior years were silver and you could really see them if you were behind a MINI on the road. Now it blends in and is not so noticeable.
Since I have the Aero Kit, I also have the full underbody belly pan from the factory. Hope I don't tear it off from a snow storm!
Lot's of pictures I took of my car here: http://s577.photobucket.com/albums/s.../Deans%20MINI/
I also have not noticed any torque steer. The two cars I test drove definitely had it, but mine doesn't. I don't know if MINI made a change for 2010, but if they did, I can tell or can't tell. haha
Let's see what else...OH, I do have a jack and tool kit and I have a "MINI" badge on the engine. I think some 2009's didn't have either for cost cutting. Can't think of anything else. Just having fun!

Minidean,
Nice pictures...I like the idea of the lower rear arms being black. I'm really glad everyone is happy with the new HK!! Everything is sounding positive so far.
Still hoping we'll get ours before Thanksgiving. They offloaded a 'boatload' of Mini's off DC and Tarifa will be arriving tonight. The VDC will have a lot of vehicles to process.

It has been very quiet in here the past couple of days. What is the status of PhebeGirl and Ron Avery? Did you get your cars yet? We need pictures!
I only have 150 miles on the car now, but I need to take the Flame Spokes off and put my 16" Bridge Spokes with winter tires on today. We are getting some snow this weekend and summer tires are not ideal in the snow, unless you want to die. haha

Ron you should not be tortured like you are! It isn't fair. Any updates on the gauges? You definitely should have had your car by now. I knew I was going to be one of the last people just because I live in CO, but man, you are taking a beating.
It will all be worth it though. I promise!

He said the car was released to the trucking company Friday morning.
He was sure the car would be delivered to the dealer by 9:00pm Friday night or first thing Saturday morning (today). I have all my money ready to go (Cash), and a ride for later today all set. The only problem would be I would have to take the car back next week to have all of the JCW accessories installed. They do not install on the weekends.
But in the back of my mind I had a feeling this time line was not to be. Well my MA just called and said the car did not show up!!! He has never had a car take longer than same day or next morning. (Remember from Ventura to Long Beach even in traffic is 2. hours or so). I told him to call the trucking Company and get an update. He said they place all of the cars in line to load on the trucks and only work one way. My problem with the way that this delivery process works (or does not work) is there is no sense of urgency at all. It is like yes we know you bought one of our cars, so you will just have to sit back and wait your turn no mater how log it may take!
So now we are looking at Monday or Tuesday or well you get the idea. However I will at least be able to have every thing installed during the week so I will not have to go back.
PS: Dean your photos and car are beautiful.
Ron

Nice report on the car also...the next week to 2 weeks is really going to drag.
