5 weeks of torture!

Good afternoon all. After years of my wife & I drooling over Mini's, we FINALLY pulled the trigger on 4/20/09 and ordered one. It was the greatest moment of my life...well at least until I actually pick it up! Of the five cars I've owned, this will be the first NEW one. My current is a 97 Mazda Protege that I paid $200 for....sooooo upgrade really isn't the word to use. Prior to that I did have an 1988 2 door 325is (e30 style) with a 5-speed, and have missed it ever since I let it go (blown head gasket, too expensive to fix). So I'm hoping the Mini can fill that void. I don't think it's going to be an issue

Went special order cus the dealer didn't really have exactly what we wanted. So now we're paying the only added fee for special order, waiting.

And it sucks.

I digress... here are the specs!

Mini Cooper S
6-Speed
Mellow Yellow/Black Roof Mirrors (yes it took me a bit of back and forth before I just said to hell with it and went with the yellow!)
Black Sport Stripes
Grey/Black Leatherette
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Sport Package w/ 17" Black Web Spokes
Comfort Access
Comfort Bluetooth w/USB/iPod/Smartphone Intergration
Hifi System
Rear Fogs
and two super excited soon to be owners in Long Island, NY!

Here's the pic from the site:
5 weeks of torture!-my_mini.jpg

The dealers thinking 3-4 weeks from today....does that sound about right to you all?

Thanks!

Congrats!

3-4 weeks sounds pretty good. My dealer said a good average was 6 weeks (for them at least).

I made a couple of concessions on my exact build, and ended up buying one off the lot on Friday because:

A) I couldn't wait
B) It was $2500 off MSRP

Now, go start thinking of accessories you might want! Thats a nice build.

It all depends on the shipping schedules! There are more going to you then there are to me, mine comes into Charleston. I ordered mine (waited 8 years!) on April 8th and it was completed on April 23rd. It is sitting at the dock waiting for a boat now. There is a ship going to Charleston on May 3rd getting in on the 13th. That would put it to me about the 26th or so.. after the VDC and the truck up to Ohio.... AHHHHHHHHHHH... I can't wait!!!

Haha, yea I've already got my eyes on all weather mats, JCW black trim for the grill & the short stubby radio antenna (i dont listen to much radio anyway).

I found outmotoring for OEM parts, any other recommendations?

I can see this becoming a problem already...

AWESOME info though, thanks!

Also another thought...do any of you think the economy has anything to do with the quicker turn-around? Less orders perhaps?

Just a stab in the dark...

I'd probably either lose my mind, forget I even ordered a car, or just go buy one off the lot after 4 months....let alone 6. That's crazy. Was there an explanation on why it took so long? Do some configurations typically take longer?

Following my MINIs from Conception to Delivery gave me some appreciation for the logistics involved. Watching and listening to the traffic at Southampton and Panama is an education in itself.

You ask a good question about ordering and waits. Maybe someone with more MINI history can give more info. As I understand it, there was a production "halt" (?) late 2008 and so MINI was taking pre-orders for the 2009 model, but the first 09 models did not come off the line until late March.

I see posts where people put in a pre-order in Oct or Nov 2008 for an 09 model and were just taking delivery first week of April. I feel lucky with the timing of my decision to order - I really haven't paid much attention to specific model years and production cycles.

You got it backwards tracking the car helps pass the time.

I'm with you there Steveski!

If you haven't met the God of Patience, say hello to Perihelion - that man deserves a medal for how long he had to wait!

Now mine, I ordered 2/20/09 and took delivery 3/28/09, so 5 weeks start to finish. Not bad from what others have posted.

It also depends on your dealer, your MA, which boat you get on (I swear the TOPEKA was a speedboat), timing, luck, and anything else you care to throw in there!

I know a way to pass the time - go read the Week 11 Support Group thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ort-group.html - that'll give you some good laughs!

Or you could organize your CDs, delete old files on your computer, watch paint dry....
