Week 3 (1/11-1/17/09) Support Group
09BlackJCW - you are lucky! ASK-MINI still says that production is complete and is waiting to transfer to carrier. Bummer...I was hoping to be on the ship that left today. Oh well...the wait is half the fun, right?
The WW tracking site does show my car on the Isolde! (information just became available today from WW and my ASK-MINI status is still "Awaiting Transport" so hold out hope CooperDreams). My Production date was the 6th - departed Southamton last Friday - due at Port Hueneme on February 1st.My MA got back to me on Saturday with the same details already available from ASK-MINI. (I don't think Mini systems get updated while the care is in possession of the carrier).
Where is the WW VIN entry screen? I tried to find it through the links in the Order Tracking sticky, but did not find anything Auto Transport specific on WW site - just some sort of IDs, reference numbers, but no VINs.
I just found out that my MC is being transported to the port of exit! Surely it will make it on the Courage, it leaves on the 20th... I set my mind that it'd be here by Valentine's Day, at this rate it might make it!
How does VIN# relate to produciton? Do you get the VIN# after, during, or very close to the begining of construction? I should get my VIN# this Friday, so does that mean it's been built by then (in Canda we don't have the same access to production info once we get our production # like in the States)?
Thanks, so once it's scheduled for production with a VIN#, how long does it take until it's born (I know it takes about 20 hours to make, but what's the usual wait for it to enter production once it has been scheduled?)?
If I get my VIN# this Friday, what production week am I likely to be in?
....I guess the wait is finally getting to me! I just want to get an indea of where it is
...sure wish we had an Owner’s Lounge up here too!

My interpretation of the How To Track Your Mini thread (stickied at the top of the 1st Gear subforum) was that you don't get your VIN until your car is about to get built. I think I got my VIN on Monday, so I'm assuming the car will get built this week... Is that other people's take on the VIN, or have I totally misread that How To?

Typically 72-48 hours prior to the start date that ASK MINI gave you, the OL will move status to “Scheduled for Production” and you’re your VIN will appear in the Review Order Detail section. With the VIN you can now apply for loans, leases and/or insurance as may be applicable.
The average MINI build takes about 8 days from start to finish. MINIs are assembled in Oxford, England at a large BMW facility. The output is approximately 700 MINIs per day over 3 continuous shifts. Yes they are working 24/7 to get your MINI to you. The first 5 days of production are staging days where all the pieces and parts are put in line and grouped to go into your MINI. This seems like a long time, but it has to be perfect – the wrong piece in the wrong car would cause it to have to be taken apart and rebuilt, think about how many more days that might take! The actual assembly is done in just one day. Painting and drying typically take up Day 7 and your final quality check at the plant is completed on Day 8. Once your MINI has passed Final QA, it sits for up to 24 hours at the plant and then is loaded onto a rail car and shipped 67 miles to Southampton, England for transport!

This may be the only time in history it's better to live in Ohio than on the West Coast...
Atlanta is a fantastic town. It is a major city, with all of the fun and culture that comes with it, yet full of the Southern hospitality that dulls the attitude that can come with "big city" life... I really should get back down there for a long weekend sometime. Good times.
It's like missing the train on the commute home by a couple of minutes.Looks like the Fedora will be arriving a week later. I may have to cope by getting another mod in anticipation for the late arrival. I plan on getting window tinting and the european armrest for sure. I've been eyeing the large checkerboard dash panels too.
- I waited all December while my order was on the production line during the extended holiday shutdown).
Here's hoping mine goes on one of the WW vessels. That K-Line schedule is a nightmare to try and figure out... Lucky for you, and I'm guessing yours is delivered to GA, yours will definitely be WW. Mines going to Charleston, so it's a bit of a crapshoot for me.
We're going to have some time to kill... Anyone bought any accessories for their soon to be built Mini?
I bought the Light in Sight sticker thing. I've been driving my little sister's 2004 MCS, and do find it a bit troublesome to hunch forward at stoplights (not all, but the ones where the lights are pretty high up).
I think I'm definitely going to get a stubby antenna too, but can't decide between the 4" and the 2".
Anyone else killing time by spending more money on a car that's several thousand miles away still?
