New guy in Calgary - can I track a Cdn MINI coming over?

Hello all, I just ordered a MINI Cooper Classic (basic Cdn model as near as I can tell), and I was reading about tracking its progress on this forum. however, there is no "Owner's lounge" on the Cdn MINI site mini.ca, and the miniusa.com site does not recognize the production number I was given. Any hints?

The main trick is to find out your VIN. You can get it either from your MA or by calling 866-DRV-MINI. Once you have that you are sitting pretty for tracking. Canadian vehicles come over on WW ships and land at Halifax. You can track the ship with your VIN via the WW website (see the sticky). When it is offloaded in Halifax it will be transferred to CN Rail for a ride across Canada. The CN website also lets you track by VIN.

If you're wondering how long it all takes, check my sig for some rough timelines. My car is currently in the Edmonton yards on its journey to BC!

Yep - just like Chernobyl said, get your VIN. I'm in Calgary too, and all of the tracking by boat information in the 1st Gear forum works!

Mine just left harbour today on the "Elektra". By the sounds of it, it takes longer to cross Canada by train, then in does to cross the Atlantic by boat...

Good luck!

Hey Chernobyl - any hints on how you track on the CN website? Do you need to register as a Velocity eBusiness user?

BTW, my parents are in Kelowna, and we'll be visiting in August (hopefully with the new Clubman). Maybe we'll see you on the roads in the Okanagan...

Yes, register as a business user and you will get access to their "Quick Trace" system (where you can enter a VIN). You'll probably need to use a business email address and it appears that it has to be approved by a human (it takes about a day or so).

UPDATE - no go on the Velocity eBiz account sign-up

They said that I didn't have any record/history of shipping with them. So I told them what I was trying to do. They said that since I'm not the actual consignee, then I have no business tracking using their software.

Oh well...

Does anyone have a CN account they would be willing to lend out in order to check on our car's wherabouts? It sounds like I would not be able to get one without grossly lying as to the reason.

GG

p.s. my Mini is offloaded from the Don Juan in Halifax as of today! I am in Calgary.
