How to Track your MINI: Revised, Expanded and Updated
Repercussions of long delay to production?
Greetings all, first time poster and (hopefully) soon to be first time Mini owner.
I ordered my 2013 Mini Cooper S hard top (not the JCW package) on 8/4/12. As of today 8/22/12, the OL website still states that it is "on order" with no production date. I contacted 866-ASK-MINI, but no love there -- they pretty much said "ask your dealer, he knows more than us." I followed up with my dealer (I think the term is MA, here) and he assured me that my Mini would go into production soon, although there is no date. He also assured me that I would have my Mini in the 6-8 week time frame originally quoted. I'm in Ohio, by the way, and I believe my Mini will eventually arrive via the port in Baltimore.
Is my dealer being realistic? Is 18 days (and counting) "on order" exceptionally long? Am I going to see this car in time to drive it before the snow falls?! I read the entirety of the opening post in this thread and I see that the time from start of production to getting on the boat is actually fairly quick, but sheesh...they haven't even scheduled a production date yet. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered all of the chrome...

I ordered my 2013 Roadster a few days ago and from what I understand, the Oxford production plant is closed every August for some reason, which means everything gets put on hold until about August 28. I imagine we will see some movement then. Seriously can't wait.
I believe Oxford is the stamping plant so that would without a doubt slow things down.
Here's the time-frame on my Clubman youngdoc, all are approximate.
Ordered: 4/11
Started Production: 4/16
Exited Paint: 4/25
Exited Assembly: 4/28
Loaded on TEXAS: 4/30
Set Sail: 5/1
Arrived at the Port of Baltimore: 5/9
At V.D.C.: 5/10
At Classic MINI: 5/29
Came home: 6/5
Although it took only 5 days to get into production that is not the norm.
You'd have to wait until they are running hard tops. The Clubman has items that are run on dedicated machines, so order to production time was quick. 6 to 8 weeks from order to delivery should be expected.
As far as ASK-MINI call them back and call them often.
Some operators are no help at all while others will bend over backwards to help.
It is very unlikely that your dealer would know more then they do at this point.
Don't be afraid to call ASK-MINI right back if you get nothing out of the first operator, I doubt you would get the same person twice in one day.
That seems to be the case with the UK plant, except it's been out a month. Why the dealers don't know this - I don't know. When I talked to my 2nd MA (my first MA no longer works for Mini!) she didn't seem to know about the plant closing when I told her. I'd guess Mini doesn't publicize it well internally.
I'm not sure I'd trust your MA about it not taking any more total time though!
As far as the OL, 'on order' is essentially the status it'll be in until production starts (at least as far as what the ASK MINI number considers production). So when it changes it means that something is actually happening, not just scheduled.
I'm in Ohio as well.
I ordered my CMSAll4 on July 21st, my MA submitted it on July 23rd and I have word from him, as well as the OL site, that it is on a ship. According to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics site it has arrived in NJ (yesterday) and should be in Baltimore tomorrow. My MA says it should be at the dealership by the end of the month.
I may have just missed the August shutdowns...
I ordered my first Mini as well (4 years ago), but I didn't have this thorough guideline at the time to go by. It took 8 weeks that time to get my Mini. This is looking like it's on par to be a 6 weeks delivery.
Stay positive!

If you ever find yourself in Oxford, or nearby the factory tour is well worth it.
If you have an existing build on record in owners lounge you'll need to set up a new profile for a new order. I did not have luck doing it any other way- btw answer no if you have an existing MINI loan that way it will allow you to enter the build number.

WW provides a great website for you to check to see whether your MINI is booked aboard WW (or ARC) ships. You will need to start at the WW Cargo Tracking website: https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb/. The page will allow you to enter your VIN (which you can obtain from the OL) in the Cargo ID field. If your MINI has been booked aboard a ship, your VIN will bring up a “Cargo Status History” and present you with a wide set of information related to your MINI’s cruise. Y
My Mini is (at last!) in final assembly, due to complete today. My MA said it will go through Baltimore, so I presume that means it will be on a WW vessel. But how do I obtain my VIN? The quote above says that I can obtain it from the OL. Can anyone provide further detail? Thanks!
I must be in the wrong place. When I log into https://ol.miniusa.com I can see a link for "track your Mini," as well as links to "YOUR MINI," "YOUR MONEY," "OWNERS PERKS," etc., but I can find no link to "Order Details" anywhere within the site. Ack. Help?

You need to click on 'Track Your Mini', it will open up a new page and play a little graphic animation. Once that's over it should show your status and there should be an option for 'Review Order Detail' there. Once that comes up, the VIN will be in the right panel of that screen.
Ah! I'd clicked on "track your mini" a zillion times, but never noticed the "review order detail" link on the status page. Thanks! Once last question: the instructions for tracking via WW line provide a link to a site (see my post above). However, the options on the site for user input are "Booking Number ," "Bill of Lading Number," "Cargo ID," and "Customer Reference Number." Which blank do I fill in, and what do I put there? The whole VIN? Something else? Many thanks.
Yep. Your whole VIN (17 characters) goes in the Cargo ID field. Mine said 'No records found' until the day after the boat left. When it works you'll see a bit of information. Under voyage number there will be a clickable link that will show the current schedule of what ports it will be going to and when.
To track the boat (which will be listed under vessel) you can just go to marinetraffic.com and on the left where it says 'Go to vessel...' you can type the boat name over that and it should find it and display it on the map.

I tried to do a search on this thread, but couldn't find an answer to what I think is not an uncommon question: If you are already a MINI owner and are trading in your old one for a new one, how can I track my new car? When I sign into the Owner's Lounge my old car comes up. I don't see a way to enter the new production number/
From what I've heard you have to set up a new account (different email address, etc.) Although, from what I've seen from the OL tracking, it's not really worth the trouble. I'd just use the 866-ASK-MINI number, give it your production number and it'll read of the latest status it has for it. They're more up to date than the OL and there are more status to go through.
No you don't have to set up anything new. I was able to add my new order (July) while it still had my 2008 order on there. I'm not on my computer right now, but I'll look and see what I did and report back to you shortly...if someone else doesn't tell you how before I get back here.
Easy to add 2nd prod #/ 2nd vehicle

Okay just got online and checked...
Login to OL. At the top where it says "update profile", click it and down toward the middle it says "member vehicle" and you will see an "add" option. Click "add" and then you can either type in your production number or VIN. Then both of your cars will be listed. And you can obviously delete your old one if you want to...or just leave it there.
See the top chart here:

just curious: do you happen to know what the story was with the 19-day wait from the VDC to you? is that simply a consequence of getting from baltimore to ohio? (i live in baltimore, so it shouldn't take 19 days to roll down the street).
