Week 23 2008 Support Group
actually charlize did most of the driving, including the stunts. According to the casts stunt director and teacher, charlize was better than most of the guys. She can drive and she is stunning, somebody grab my jaw from the floor please
Bummer, the guy who was interested in my car called and gave me an offer that I am saying is too low, he says he has a buddy who works with dealer auctions and "that is what he told me they go for".... my car has nothing wrong with it, just high miles for the year, I am already pricing it way low and I know how much TOO low is... anyway two more people are interested at the moment anyway, now I just have to wait until Thursday for one of them to check it out.
I was beginning to worry that my workplace had shut off my access to the site!
(not that it's impacting my productivity...I'm multi-tasking! I can view the website AND work on reading work emaisl at the same time!

My MA gave me a non committal "it will be here within 7 days", so I'm hoping for delivery soon too!

Western Highway Update
It looks like WH has left the Port of Baltimore and is on her way back out to sea:

Patriot has left Terminal UP Berth 4 at Port of Charleston. That's where WH is scheduled to dock, so she should be able to sail right in and get our cars unloaded!

So my buddy and I were finalizing the route for the 75-mile loop we are code naming it "Breckenfish", since we heard a portion of it is freshly paved. Once we figure out how to mount a video camera in one of the cars, and I get my MINI, we'll be going up to film the entire journey. Also, checking the main leg road conditions, rest areas, pull over points, radio interferences, cell reception (probably none) and maybe check out accommodations and available tow services while where there.
So far, here's what we got:
-75 Miles total +/- 5 miles
-420+ apexes (our counts differ, mine's 412 to 460 his)
-4 hairpins (4-12 actually, our definition differs), 3 hairpins are in sequence w/ a 1500' elevation change
-4000' overall elevation change
-Mostly two lane roads, steep drop-off on one side
-8 intersections (2 are camping area entrances, 3 private driveways, 2 service roads) in the first leg, which is about 40 miles.
-Climate changes from desert, to prairie, rocky hills, to alpine and back.
-One 5 mile stretch of highway to return to the start
How does that sound? Too many apexes?
we can cut it down to 50 miles and maybe 280 apexes, or 35 miles and 200 apexes, or even 110 miles 550 apexes and 3 stretches of high speed highway and 2 towns.

there can never be too many apexes. Have a blast. There is a cheap an easy way to mount the camera, using some bar and brakets (attach to headrest poles).
i saw a great pic once, i'll see if I can find it again.

you could knock something like this pretty easily from things at any local hardware store

the too many apexes are mostly for the motion sensitive co-pilots (his fiancee for one)
OoOooo.. that's a great idea, and i have all kinds of piping laying around.. i could just buy those loops, wingnuts and drill a hole i can mount the camera base to.

yeah camera mounts are fairly easy to knock out. Just measure the distance between your headrest pillar things and drill a bunch of holes in a bar haha. Let us know how it comes out whenever you get around to doing it.
It's in California, so anyone from the oregon border down to SD, and east to Reno or LV is welcome to join us on the scouting mission. I think we may try a large group in April, spring blooms will make nice a nice backdrop. I don't want to cross dates w/ the other events in the year, but I think if you can't make it to MOTD, this might turn out to be a good alternative to west coasters.
*fingers crossed*
