Starry, wouldn't it be so nice to know, after going through all the emotional distress of waiting for your MINI, that's it's been already half-way across the Atlantic?
Yea, but I know that's not the case lol. Lets just hope my baby's on her way today!

I dunno, the dual color armrests are pretty unique. Not many cars on the market let you mix and match like that.

Maybe now they'll add mixed armrest colors as an option in the Mini configurator!

stopped by the dealer with a tiny hope that my car got dropped off early.

no such luck.. Funny thing is that there were about 30 MINI's on the lot, ALL but 2 had sold signs... lol

my MA said he sold the most cars in dealer history last month. 35 cars!

whoah!

I don't see any new picture requests...so I have no more at the moment.

I just got back from a lovely 120 mile drive down I-280 and I-80 to the edge of PA and back through Manhattan down the FDR and then up 10th, woo hoo!. It was a beautiful day, a wonderful drive, and some blue car might have been doing 120 at one point, who knows who that was...

Couple of things:

We all know MINIs are flying off the lot, but yikes they are EVERYWHERE! I saw 17 MINIs on my errands and drive today (5 of us were all parked at Home Depot in a cluster...quite amusing). Is it just that I am now far more attuned to looking out for MINIs?

Wowzers my white wheels are already black! Ceramic pads here we come!

Oh, and my gas gauge still shows 9/12 with 207 miles on it so far!

Hadn't seen this here...figured it'd be good for us too!

Since I'll be driving Waldo 200 miles from the dealership to his new home, I want to make certain I don't have to make another trip back anytime soon for something really minor (or not so minor!) Not that it wouldn't be a good excuse to motor, but I'm busy for the next several weekend!

Anyway I found this on one of the "other" forums (what? there are others than Week 23?).

Anyway, credit to i8chilis...who compiled this!

SInce I have some options he doesn't, here are my adds:
Check sunroof operation thoroughly
Check MFSW functions (cruise, volume, changing stations/tracks, etc)
Check to see if keyfob rolls all windows up and closes sunroof, and that keyfob OPENS both windows and sunroof.
Check that the one-touch windows work (car I drove in Indianapois didn't work...the MA couldn't get them to work either!)
Check Bluetooth functionality
Check Comfort Access functionality

Do we have anything to add to this (very) comprehensive list?

Since I was initially compiling this just for myself, I didn't include anything that wasn't relevant to me (cruise control, sunroof, etc.), and anything I didn't understand.

My apologies if I made any mistakes during editing and consolidation. Other posters deserve the credit for all these ideas, and even most of the phrasing:

Under Bonnet:
  • Check oil levels.
  • Check coolant level and color.
  • Check for coolant tank leaks and seals.
  • Check brake fluid.
  • Check transmission fluid.
  • Check windshield wiper fluid.
  • Remove clear sticker on Mini logo if it is there.
  • Check for loose battery cables.
  • Check all connections are tight.
  • Check for condensation in headlights.
  • Check headlight lenses for scratches or blemishes.
  • Operate hood 3 times, check for wear marks.
  • Wait 20 minutes, operate hood 2 times see if any marks start to occur.
Interior:
  • Interior lights are operable with opening doors.
  • Interior lights change colors as designed.
  • Verify all other door sill, footwell and reading lights are working (wherever they may be).
  • Interior dash and door pockets are not scratched.
  • Verify driver/passenger seats work and move well.
  • Check visors.
  • Verify rear passenger seats fold down properly.
  • Verify all seat belts work and are in good condition.
  • Check glove compartment locks/unlocks. A copy of the first inspection and the battery maintenance form should be in the glove box – make sure.
  • Verify the the mileage is not excessive.
  • With hood and windows closed, check that glass sits flush with seals and there are no gaps.
  • Check windows for cracks or marks.
  • Verify the windows go up & down, at a smooth andconsistent motor speed.
  • Check that all rubber seals around door housings are not loose and in place. Check for missing gasket between the bottom of the door and entrance front...MINI part #51767146093.
  • Check A/C fans and operation.
  • Look for stitching issues in the seats.
  • Verify even/uniform carpeting coverage.
  • Check for scrapes or scratches on the side panels, dash or color line.
  • Steering wheel & column. Does it tilt and telescope as designed? No strange noises going lock-to-lock?
  • Check the fit and function of all the control ***** and switches, one by one. Don't be afraid to play the stereo LOUD at the dealer. Use the radio, the CD player, and the AUX-in port. Make sure it all works. As well as the fit of the speakers in the doors and dash. This includes your remote key, too.
  • Air conditioning blowing cold and all climate controls working as intended?
  • Verify that the rear headliner isfirmly attached to the interior roof above the rear passenger windows.
Paint/Exterior:
  • Check all lamps (headlights, brake lights, fog lights, right directional [front and rear], left directional [front and rear]).
  • Check paint work is free of dirt marks, hairline scratches or any type of scratches and factory paint drips (visible areas, underneath your doors, around edges of boot and bonnet).
  • Check underneath bumpers.
  • Check windshield seals and condition.
  • Check folding wing mirrors.
  • Go over the entire exterior paint with your hand to identify the smoothness of the finish, looking for texture changes, indicating areas that have apparently been damaged/repaired during transport that are not the same as manufactured quality. In general, ask if any damage occurred during shipping and was repaired.
  • Look for unrepaired dents, dings, scratches or scrapes in the surface suffered during shipping.
  • Check for uneven panel gaps.Run your finger along the different panel seams, hood, doors, boot and bonnet. If you feel (or see) the gap "pinch" together, ask them to fix it.
  • Check windows, trim and seals. Verify no cracks or dings in the glass. All seals appear smooth and even? No bulges or gaps that might suggest a future leak?
  • Verify all panels are securely attached.Does everything appear solid at the edges? Black plastic fenders, too? Grab 'em. Give 'em a wiggle. Rear spoiler, too?
  • Do all doors open and close in a uniform manner? Latches secure? Levers and handles feel solid? No notcheyness, snags or strangeness? Everything appear to seal up tight? Listen for wind noise during your test-drive, too.
  • Remove the protective plastic film off the passenger side door sill protector, if it’s still there.
  • Verify even paint coverage and color.Make sure to look in a well lit area (outside, if possible). Check for uneven paint around windshield washer valves.
  • Look for cosmoline (rust preventative ointment) stains on the paint (and watch for that in the coming days).
  • Check tire pressure and double-check they are mounted in the proper direction. There are little arrows on the side that show which way they should be rotating. Improperly mounted and inflated tires can effect something as simple as gas mileage... or cause something as bad as a fiery crash (a mild exaggeration if you look at the big Firestone/Bridgestone fiasco a few years back). This is particularly important with runflat tires, since it is not likely that you will notice the feel of an underinflated tire.
  • Check tires (condition, pressure, rod nuts). While you're there, check to see half-moon plastic spacers were removed from front spring/strut assembly for transport-photo is attached on inmmini's post-#25.
  • Check alloys are free from marks or scratches.
  • Check wheel spats are free from marks or scratches.
  • Test all lights, blinkers, etc. Verify headlights are aimed properly.
Boot:
  • Check boot shuts flush and properly by opening and closing it 3 or 4 times.
  • Check for two holes in rubber edging (water drain).
  • Check rubber is covering fabric and not pinching.
  • Check for condensation in the tail lights.
  • Check lenses on tail lights for scratches or blemishes.
Key:
  • Received extra key(s).
  • Check programmed options with key (verify that the windows, turn signals, radio and other programmable features are working the way you want). Program your keys alike, or they won’t do the same thing (unless that’s what you want).
Test Drive:
  • Check brakes.
  • Check for squeals, rattles or any strange noises.
  • Check for left hand pull.
  • Check for steering column noise (clicks or pops upon rotation of wheel).
  • Check radio/CD and speakers.
  • Automatic wipers on cleaning.
  • Speed sensitive wipers.
  • Horn.
  • Are all warning lights in working order? Do any stay on?
  • Transmission noise and function. Upshifts and downshifts well? Any noises out of the ordinary tranny whine (particularly downshifting from 3rd to 2nd)?
  • Engine noise and function. Does it sound smooth? No misses, pops, surges or stumbles?
  • All gauges appear to be working as intended? No bouncing speedo or burnt out LEDs in the display screens (very rare, but it happens)?
  • Verify that the windows drop a crack when the door is opened (to stop the sudden blast of pressure when you slam the door).
General:
  • Make sure you receive an owner's manual.
  • Verify the VIN on the car matches VIN on the paperwork.
  • Verify all options are present…go down your build sheet line-by-line.

Starry, sure hoping your baby is on the way today. I was also told by my MA at MCM that he has some gifts for me, but no idea what they are.

Did anyone get a final quote of costs inc. all installations before picking up your Mini? I was reviewing the purchase agreement and notices that the dealer options appeared not to be included. Since I am looking at other than Mini financing, I want to know the purchase price. Just curious as to when you got the "out the door" figure from your MA.

Starry, I heard that there are specific days set aside to pick up your Mini at Motor City. I think they are Monday, Tuesday and Friday. No Saturday pickups as they schedule test drives then. That will really complicate things for me as it is a long drive from way downriver to MCM. I don't finish my day til sometimes 6:30 or 7:00. I am feeling a little bummed as I may not be able to pick up my Mini til a week from Friday even if she comes in earlier

you can get that any time you want. It is called a Bill of Sale. Call up your MA and tell them you need a BOS to do your financing at your bank and they will generate one for you. I had mine do that and then fax it over so i can get the paperwork done at the bank first to get the check cut before going to the dealer.

My MA at MCM called me a while ago and we discussed it. I told him I needed to know asap so he figured it all out and called me. You should just call your MA. Who is your MA? forgive me if you already told me that...

If there are certain days....that's stupid! I'm paying a lot of money for my car... If it's ready on a Wednesday, that's when I'm picking it up! haha... Im not financing through them or anything so maybe it won't matter during the week for me. who knows...

Yeah, I asked my MA for that when we ordered. He is Cliff. He said that the PA represented the cost. However, I was checking my order sheet and noticed that all the dealer accessories (driving lamps, mats etc.) were not included in the price on the PA. The accessories are about 800 w/o installation on the driving lamps. I know that installation can be really expensive and I want a final cost before I get a check.

Thanks, I'll call and leave a message for him or maybe email. He is usually pretty good about returning calls and emails. I'll ask for a BOS and see what he replies. I've asked 3 times for him to let me know the final APR on Mini financing and haven't gotten a reply. That's one of the reasons I'm looking at alternate financing. The Credit Union I'm talking to is giving a pretty good rate and throwing in a gas card.

I started with Cliff and didn't like him at all. He was very condescending and rude to me. Never returned any calls or emails, so I emailed someone else and went through them. His loss, not mine. My MA even gave me the individual installation prices for everything. I did opt out of some things after some more thought too and he's been fine with that. Installation CAN be expensive. The illuminated sills are $300 just for the install. Good luck with him getting back to you!

BTW, my MA told me that the only way to put the windows up and close the sun roof from outside the vehicle was by holding the key to the right in the driver's door lock.

The fob will roll down the windows and open the sunroof by holding down the unlock button, but it doesn't roll them up by holding the lock button. I tried it today. If anyone can tell me how, please do!

(I would think being able to remotely close up the car would be a better feature....especially during an unexpected thunderstorm!)

So true...who woulda thunk!

Kinda makes me worry about the not-so-obvious things that get missed!

If the car is equipped with Comfort Access, the key does not need to be used. Simply hold the black button in on the door handle and they will all close. I showed that to my MA who didn't believe me when I told her it would work. Another MA in the same dealership ALSO was not aware of it. I got the tip from you good folks at NAM who know a LOT more about this car than probably 99% of the MAs!

Blackjack, you are absolutely correct. I discovered this yesterday. And I think you are also correct that the MAs don't know this. He showed me how to use the button to put all the windows down, but not up.

I still wish the key fob lock button did the same, but apparently you can only put the windows down with the fob.
