I've been watchin the red dot sail across the ocean, then checking the WW site to verify our car was off loaded on the 20th. My wife tries the direct approach and calls the MA. No call back for two days (he was off), then he calls back around 5pm tonight to say that our car is on the truck!?! If this is true, then there is the outside chance we could see some week 16ers in the SF bay area this weekend.

There was a "boatload" (pun intended) of cars unloaded to the VDC, so I am not holding my breath. But...it would be really cool to have the car for the long weekend.

Did the pre-ordered cars get to use the express lane? Is there a "mini" check-in?

 

The VDC is a strange and mysterious place, studied by mathematicians and astrophysicists for years. Much like the island on Lost, the VDCs appear to be temporal anomalies. Some MINIs languish there for days (or weeks) on end. Others seem to pass through and get loaded on a truck hours before they even arrive.

After two experiences with the order/delivery process, my best advice once your MINI reaches the shore is: "bug your MA".

Spoke to my MA Tuesday who said my MCS "Charlie" should be here the end of this week. Excitement builds... May be driving him this weekend.

Taking next Tues & Wed off work and willing my Mini to be in by then. I sent an email to my MA yesterday, and he called me about 10 minutes later - said once it gets to the VDC they're usually really quick about getting it to him (Southbay Mini in Los Angeles). He's going to call me tomorrow with an update.

Originally he told me I had to put $1,000 down, but then never asked me for it. Did you guys have to put any money down to get your order in?

 

dlaw - can I ask where you're located and who your dealer is?

 

i just dropped my MA an e-Mail to see what the truck situation is.

i had to deposit $1000 on the spot. maybe it was because of my twitching eyes and itchy neck...

and i think dlaw is from AZ....

I'm in Scottsdale, AZ. I also had to put a $2000 deposit down. Here's hoping your car is already at the dealership.

 

My MA said I would need to put $400 down... but then never asked for it. I guess she figures I'm good for it.

 

Here are the pics of the clubbie. It is dirty from the rain last night. We ordered the car with silver stripes and c-pillars but they painted the c-pillars black so we are trying to decide to get black stripes or silver c-pillars so they match. Love this car.

Just got the call from my MA. My MCS is at the dealership. Picking "Charlie" up tomorrow!!!

Certainly tough to wait, but the dealership will be putting window tint on today and the car won't be ready until tomorrow. At least I will have it to drive over the holiday weekend. If "Charlie" has made it all the way to Scottsdale, I would think yours should be at the dealership also, despite the notorious LA traffic. It's worth a call to your mini advisor. Will post pics tomorrow.

Magpie, I ordered from Southbay MINI as well. Unfortunately, I missed the TURANDOT but am following closely behind (well, 9 days behind) on the FALSTAFF. I, too, put down $1000 deposit via credit card, but they never charged it.

Anyways, please let me know how your pickup goes! I'm very curious as I'll be going thru the same steps in a couple of weeks. Oh, and are you financing thru MINI or thru a 3rd party? I didn't even ask what their rates are these days but I figure its at least 5 or 6%.

booyun - I'll keep you informed. So far my MA has been great. My apr, through MINI is 15%, but I have HORRENDOUS credit. Couldn't get a loan anywhere else.

How'd you get stuck on a later boat if you were in the same production week as the rest of us? I feel for you.

 

Well, I've seen this happen to other production weeks where if you go into production in the back half of the week, theres a very good chance that your car arrives at the port too late to board the current ship so your left waiting for the next one. I've seen this happen to some of the guys on the week 17 thread. Oh well, what can you do, right?
