General Q: Why '07 and not wait for '08?

I've gotten asked this question by lots of people -- why did I get the 2007 when the 2008's are just around the corner?

One big reason is the wait - I didn't want to get my new car in Feb or March of next year! And another is b/c I just graduated college and I felt like my car symbolized a major accomplishment and I wanted an '07 which is obviously my class year. Yes, that's a stupid reason.

What's everyone elses reason who either just ordered or is waiting or recently got theirs?

Well, my "Official" reason was with the dollar sliding to record lows against the Euro, I figured there was a very high probability of a price increase. I haven't gone and tried to build my car with the 08 prices, but intend to later. I have heard conflicting reports as to whether or not the prices are really going to be higher; I think to some extent it depends on the options you want.

The "unofficial" reason was that I want to drive it to my Mom's house come Christmas when all the relatives are here from all over, to show off!!!! Not to mention that I have been admiring them for several months and just couldn't fathom waiting any longer (knowing of course, that after I ordered, I would have to wait a little anyway)

There's always something new just around the corner. I've bought a lot of new cars in my 55 some years and believe me, the glory of newness is a very short lived phenomenon. Unless there's some feature that is worth the wait to you, then now's as good a time as any. Sorry for all of the cliches but the bottom line is that whenever you get your car you'll get what you want with a 50Kmile/4yr warranty and 3 years of free maintenance starting from the day you receive it, regardless of the model year.

And I've got another reason -- the car I'm currently driving is my sisters hand-me-down car, so once I get this MINI, I'm selling my current car and the money can go back to her. That's my unselfish reasoning =)

I was going to wait for an '08 but my daughter had an "incident" with the car she was driving and that pushed the whole thing forward. I, of course, was (at least on some level) delighted.

08 prices were released (on motoring file) and prices have been held constant.

The only reason to hold off for an 08 is a possible color/option that you really must have,
or
an '08 is a 'year' newer than an '07 for resale, and "the '08 isn't the first year, so the bugs will be worked out" but this only really matters for resale...

Ahh, prices have mostly been held constant- but options have been moved around, and there are reports of car's actual final price being a bit higher. Nothing major like I thought it might be though.

I just couldn't wait. And i wanted a car that had heated seats, and a working rear defroster before it got cold.

not true, the base price was held the same but who buys a bare bones MINI?? using the calculations provided by motoring file, my car would have been 1200 more not including any other prices that may have changed, such as the paint, although that only went up 50 for the cabrios. im not saying the motoring file article is wrong, i just dont think they went into complete detail as to the price changes.

that was my mentality, the only thing i would have wanted was the USB port, that may have been worth the wait as the ipod cable is a 400 dollar accessory but i wouldnt have spec'd the bluetooth so i wouldnt have gotten the usb port anyway. So 07 here we come!

Chose an 07

I originally put my money down on an 08 since that was all the local dealer could offer me in early October. Referred to an alternate dealer by a fellow NAM user (thanks Harley) , who still had 07 allocation and my car was completed 7 days later. Now on a ship to California

My reasoning was a concern about the unknown price increase on a loaded MCS, and of course a desire to get it sooner. I haven't repriced my car yet, but it sounds like the difference might not be as much as I feared.

Depending on how long you plan to keep the car (and how many miles you do), resale value may or may not offset the price increase. I tend to keep my cars for five years (or forever), so this was not a factor for me.

I will believe the "not so much of an increase" on the 08's when I see it on miniusa.com - until then???????? If you are on the fence - get an 07 and enjoy it plus save $$$$

i know what you mean although at this point, i think its not necessarily what the price increase will be, its where it is added in. Before people thought the base was going to go up, but it *looks* like it wont but the options, thats where the 08 bites you. Based on the Miniusa.com fumble with the cabrio prices, it seems the options have gone up a good amount with shifting within packages to maximize profits.
