MCS - Gas Cap question

First - I live in Oregon. I've pumped my own gas (out of state) a total of 3 times in my life. All cars prior to the MCS have had a little swing out door that the plastic gas cap can hang on while the car is being filled. On the S - where does the gas cap go? Is there a hanger for it? Will the attendant set it on the roof of my car... or on the gas pump.. or drop it on the ground and scuff it up??

Just curious ~ and thanks for humoring such a silly question.

The door swings out and has a circular hole in the top of it. The cap has a circular part on the end that goes into the gas tank. It inserts in the hole on the door. Hope that makes sense. I don't know how you Oregon folks deal with full serve gas. I like to do it myself.

I didn't think there was a door - isn't the chrome gas cap the actual gas cap?

The chrome cap is just a cover/door, as mentioned above, it swings open and there is a ring to store the actual gas cap in.

Oh! I seriously thought it was a shiny cap that screwed off completely... that could be dropped & scratched up, etc.

Thanks for the clarification ~ makes perfect sense now.

Gas caps are harder to loose these days - however, when at that gas station, always watch the attendant - they can do some goofy things
