OK - did you search yet?
I've had this twice, but if you found a fuse that would shut the fan off you may have an entirely different problem, cuz I never found one that worked nor could the dealer show me the right one. However the fan power feed is on the top of the fan shroud, a multi-line connector - driver side...you can pull this apart to shut off the fan....maybe easier than accessing the fuse or battery.
The first time I had this it was easy...the fan controller went bad (I'm talking an 02 btw) and the only way to replace the controller is as a part of a complete fan assmbly, which needs a significant portion of the front end to come off to access. Sigh....not pretty....or cheap
The second time the fan would stay on....and don't ask me how this works but: Due to a leaking expansion tank the coolant got too low and air got into the system. Now understand that the hose routing has some high spots that can trap air. Somehow the computer senses the pressure drop resulting from these air pockets and even tho the coolant was topped off the computer senses the low PSI (fm air pockets) and keeps the fan running EVEN AFTER THE TEMP DROPPED. This made no sense to me BUT bleeding the cooling system and topping it off (and replacing the overflow tank fixed it) and that was a LOT less $$ than a new fan. I din't believe it...but it worked
So check your coolant and if low a) find the reason and b) top off and bleed the system (there are two bleeder valves...just run the top coolant hoses) - at the dealer this cost me about $100...replace the tank and bleed the system (after diagnostics)
Or stand-by for a serious chunk of change if you need the fan assembly (which I've STILL had to do twice...but I caught it early the second time)

Tap on the relay located on the fan shroud, the relays have been known to stick closed, if this works the fan will have to be replaced....its all one unit with the shroud and relay.

When is it normal for the fan to run when the car is off and when is it not? I have had my fan stay running before when the car was off but it was only on hot days when I was in stop and go traffic and came to my destination then shut the car off.
It also happens if I just let the car idle for a long time and not move. The fan will eventually shut off I think. But what I have done is just turn my key to the first click and the fan shuts off. Sometimes when turning the key back it will then turn on again but usually not and I assume it has to do with temperature.

So really, it sounds like you just needed part #9 on this diagram....
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...20&hg=17&fg=05
The part# for this relay doesn't show in their diagrams, but Its just the standard relay that is located in your fuse box. The contacts on it stick and cause the fan to stay on.
