Boost Controller

I just purchased my friend a boost controler for his 08 cooper s.

He has no other mods and would like few more pounds of boost.

Can I sneek a few lbs past the ecu?

How many lbs of boost can i safely add without any other mods?

Any Pics of aftermarket boost controlers.Or install instructions.

I know a lot of people have this done in the tune but I wanted to get him something under $125

Dont hammer me too much...I trying to get him going with the mods. I figured a few more lbs of boost would give him the itch.

sorry bro, u wasted ur money

the MCS doesn't have a traditional Wastegate solenoid with a spring connected to a vacuume source..

the ECU directly operates a solenoid and fluctuates the boost patterns on the fly all the time.. Hence the overboost function... boost levels also change according to Live data from the ecu
such as Intake temps, Coolant temps, Knock sensor feedback, timing advance, etc etc

basically the ECU has Fuel Maps, Ignition Maps, and Boost curve maps

*Cliff notes* u can't bypass the ecu with it throwing a fit

You need to do a lot more reading before recommending any mods to your friend unless you want him to stop being a friend.

Need to trick the ECU, or make it less smart, so it wont get crazy with the extra boost.
Its a car after all.

not bad numbers although a little lower than what most JCWs are reporting. That could be due to dyno differences too though.

edit: actually after seeing your mod list I'd be upset. You have a full turbo back exhaust?

This is WHP. I believe data from mini is flywheel horsepower. Maybe someone can confirm this?? I am shooting for 250- 260whp .

...on the stock turbo? not happening....

If you're at 260 wheel...you're going to have almost 300 ft-lbs to the wheels, and I just don't see that happening with a stock turbo.

Although, maybe with your boost controller....

stock JCW puts down 190whp/192wtqe (BONE STOCK) on the ABF Mustang Dyno... so the numbers on his youtube is within range (kinda sorta)... just my 2 cents.

Interesting... If I can control the boost let see how much power can stock turbo make on this car!!! This car will go back to the dyno again hopefully with more hp to the wheel.

I know this is a very very old thread. Dont know why some lough...just change the oue vaccum wastgate for a good standard pressure commanded one, install a ebc or mbc, do the chip to avoid errors and give more fuel to the engine and you will control all the boost the turbo can give whenever you want...
