Hello Everyone,

Currently have a set of BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2s (205-45 17) as my summer set, or three seasons and a set of Yokohama IceGuards that are used when weather falls below 40 here in metro Milwaukee area.
I looked at the treadwear to get an idea of how long the Sport Comp 2s may have lastest, which was kinda a mistake, I was hoping to get two seasons out of them, about 22-24K, but just made over one.
Looking for my next set, would like to get about three seasons, and obviously wanting to balance cost, grip, wear and reliability. I do highway driving and some city, not deep in city. I love the grip the Sport Comp 2s provide, too. No auto crossing type of driving, just spirited and want the grip when I take a corner, not much else.
Here are some choices I've started to narrow down:
-Michelin Pilot Super Sport
-Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric A/S
-BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S

any recommendations ???

Comp-2 A/S looks like a good choice.

I don't think the MPSS will meet your mileage goal.

We run Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric A/S in the summer, great grip dry or in rain. Excellent sidewall stiffness, for cornering. Ok in light snow, in MN...it could snow when least expected!

 

super sport will only get you about 25k miles as well of spirited driving, may be able to push them more.... you may want to drop to an ultrahigh performance category, this will retain some grip, and gain quite a bit of longevity.

 

Dunlop Direzza ZII's. I'm on my 3rd or 4th season on them and I'm about due for a new set. Tread wear of 200, so you wont get too many out of them. If you're looking for a truly dedicated summer tire, they're my recommendation. Lots of grip and a really great performance gain. A little noisy and aren't rated too well in the rain (I've never had issues in rain driving), but overall, they're probably one of the most favorite tires I've ever run. I've run them on the track and as a daily tire. Check them out.

Used to be $138 on tire rack, i see they are $150 now.
I'm going with continental DWs because, ya know, it never rains in california

 

Actually, the DW has better wet grip and the A/S 3 is better in the dry.

 

Interesting. I guess that is what you pay the extra $40 each for.

DW is a steal at $108.20 if you don't have freezing temperatures to deal with.

I have had good luck with the Cooper Zeon RS3-A.
I run them on my AMG and my Cooper S
Have been a great tire.
Got me home in the Blizzard we had yesterday in Colorado.
I run a 205/55/16 though on the Mini.

Discount tire direct seems to have the best price on them.

 

Have 58,000 on Conti DWS with 4/32 left. Will use again.

 

My DWS06s are the best tires I've had on the MINI.
Great on dry or wet conditions.

It might be interesting to see how the new Firestone Firehawk Indy 500
compares to the other UHP tires. The tread makes it look like a poor-man's
BS RE-11, although it will surely be less grippy and longer lasting than that.
Plus, it comes in 205/45/17, 205/55/16, and 205/50/16 (my current size, and
good summer tires are disappearing from that particular size).

I've never thought of Firestone as a top quality tire brand, but I would like to
see how it compared to the BFG Sport Comp 2 when it starts getting reviews.

 

Thank you everyone for contributing!! I decided on the Conti DWS06s, and they started a rebate not too long ago.
Shipped, after rebate, I'd be under $440, with road hazard warranty, too.
I was able to do an additional warranty/protection (kinda like a mini roadside assistance) directly from Continental, too.

 

BTW, it looks like the new Firestone Firehawk Indy 500
(not to be confused with the Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500)
is a rebrand of the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 from other non-US markets.

 

Bridgestone potenza 760 sports. Good price on a awesome tire. Semi slick. Once they warm up they reaaaallllyyy shine.

 

Been through all types of tires on this car and none have been better overall than the Michelin Pilot Super Sports! Not only do they handle great wet or dry, but they've also lasted really long too, and I'm hard on tires!

 

How long in hard miles driven is "really long?"

 

I just replaced a set with 51,000 on them. And they are on sale at Tire Rack for $95 each with a $75 rebate on a set of 4.

This is a good deal if you want all season tires and are looking to save some cash.

New rollers for this season:

Rims: NM Eng RSe05, white, 17x7.5, et.45
Tires: Yokohama S drive, 215/45/17

I had these tires before on my previous two Clubmen, and enjoyed them completely.







My car is on JCW factory suspension (lower than standard a bit), there are no spacers on the rims, and there is NO RUBS of any kind at any condition with 215/45/17 rubber. Thicker profile of 215 tire fills out the wheel gap nicely and added width of 215s makes all the difference in stance from the back (et.45 and 7.5 rim helps as well). CHARLOTTE looks proper now...
