MINIs Slay the Sleeping Dragon is a gathering of MINIs old and new, at picturesque Fontana Village at Deals Gap, NC. Masses of MINIs will be attending to Slay the Dragon! MSSD will be held on Friday through Sunday, October 11th through 13th. This is a laid back event which will have time for fellowship and driving! There will be something for everyone! We have a group rate on a block of lodge rooms and a number of cabins. Ask for Tar Heel MINI Rates for MSSD.

MSSD 2019 Friday Night Dinner in Bryson City (Friday, October 11th)

Join us other Miniacs to suffering from OCMD (Obsessive Compulsive Mini Disorder) to start this weekend of twisties!

Date: Friday October 11th

Time: 4:30 PM

Where: Ingles Grocery Store, 76 Hughes Branch Rd, Bryson City, NC

1. First, we will be meeting at 4:30 in the Ingles parking lot where we will pass out T-shirts and make run announcements.

2. Second, at 5:15, we will head towards downtown Bryson City where we will park around or near the Swain County Clerk of Court Building.

3. Finally, we will then split up to have dinner at 5:30 in one of three great restaurants in Bryson City. There is no need for you to sign up for a particular restaurant. We have made reservations for the following number of people at the following restaurants:

a. Pasqualino's Italian Restaurant (~30 people) 25 Everett Street, Bryson City, NC - Menu (http://www.cherokeesmokies.com/pasqualinos/)

b. Jimmy Mac's (~45 people) 121 Main St, Bryson City, NC - Menu (https://www.zmenu.com/jimmy-macs-bryson-city-online-menu/)

c. Anthony's Italian Restaurant (~55 people) 50 Depot St., Bryson City, NC - Menu (https://www.anthonysderailedbrysoncity.com)

Here is a map of downtown Bryson City showing how close the 3 restaurants are to each other. If you zoom out and look Northwest across the river you will see an odd-shaped building with lots of parking. That is the Swain County Clerk of Court Building. We will park there as a group and walk over the bridge to dinner.

We will have a shortened menu at each restaurant rather than ordering off the menu the to make the meals a bit faster. Menu details not available yet. Note that dinner will be at your own expense.

Question

Hi,
I just purchased my first Mini and this is my second day belonging to this Form. The STSD Event would also be my first event. I'm not sure how thinks work yet.

Does one have to belong to the Tarheel Mini Club to register to attend this Event? I live 4 hours from Raleigh, so it wouldn't really be right for me to join and never attend any Club meetings or outings.

But I'd sure like to go to this one!

Pete,

You do not have to be a member of our club to attend any of our events. We do like people to register for our events though the link provided. This lets us charge small fee ($15 per car) to help our club with logistics as our club has never required dues to be a member. Also, the registration site allows you to order the event T-shirts as well. If you are on Facebook check out our event page listed on my posting above for details of the event. As to your distance from Raleigh you would also be in good company as we have people coming in from 14 States including New Hampshire, Louisiana and Missouri. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this event as we always have a great time driving twisties with our MINI friends.

I’ve attended this event twice and have been welcomed with open arms by the Tar Heel MINI Motoring Group!

Thank you to all the volunteers who help put this event on!

(Looks like I can not attend this year, all my sons will be on Fall break from college and home that weekend. So bummed too, I really need some Dragon Therapy! Lol)

I just got my first Mini and am interested in attending this event, but I have a couple questions: First, do I need to register anyone I bring as a passenger? Also, we're local (about 1.5 hours from where we live to Fontana taking 129) and I'm wondering if it's okay to come just on one day?

Thanks!

Only 1 registration per car is required. Also, we have a number of drivers show up on Saturday for the runs, stay over Saturday night, then either attend the Sunday run or leave Sunday morning.

Sorry I missed all of you, I just got back from a great weekend of “Dragon Therapy”. I was able to get 33 Dragon Runs in before the rains came Saturday afternoon. Here is a sample of Friday’s runs. Thanks for the sample pics from 129Photos.com

Nice “3 wheeling”!

I had a blast except for the slow drivers in front of me. The Porsche and BMW Z groups were there. And don’t get me started on the Corvette owners that were down there. Finally, would just pull over to allow a gap to build and then just run them down again and again.
