Disappointed in Toyo Proxes 4 Please helpl

Hey. I have an 04 MCS. I keep the tire pressures right and rotate them every 6 thousand miles or less and don't corner hard or drive hard. My last set of Toyo Proxes 4's only lasted 18K miles. What's up with that? Good tires, though. Can anyone recommend something with good wet traction that lasts longer in a 16 inch non-runflat?

Thats weird, it sounds like you did everything right. I generally get over 30k with mine. Could it be your alignment? I know I had to get mine done the last time around.

I just put on these tyres. They are very quiet and soft, but man they are squirmy on the tread-blocks! Takes the edge of the the turn-in..that's for sure....

How were they worn? Have you had an alignment recently? Might want to consider that with your next set of tires.

I like the Kumho MX for a performance non run flat tire. Not recommended for snow/ice though. The tire rack has pretty good recommendations on various tires according to intended use. The Kumho all season (SPT?) is supposed to be very good also.

I replaced my runflats with Proxes 4s last summer. Admittedly, I've only put about 6000 miles or so on them, but they still look brand new. I've been very happy with them. What little you give up in pure dry performance, you get way more back in ride comfort and wet performance. I would concur that there might be an alignment problem.

You might consider the Falken Ziex 512 from http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/754/ . They're $71 per tire for 205/50/16.

Tirewear can vary alot due to:

Your driving style- this counts alot- just be smooth at accelerating and braking and even through turns as much as is possible. Everytime you have fun going fast you are wearing your tires more/faster.

Your road conditions- some roads are much more abrasive or harsh on rubber and can increase some wear.

The age of the tire- older rubber will harden and tend to wear a bit slower and offer less performance. New rubber is softer especially on the best performance tires and tends to wear faster.

Alignment- with new tires you would benefit from checking that alignment is within factory specs. Toe settings can be adjusted and evened out and that helps tire wear as well as ride quality and handling.

Tire pressure- a very big consideration. Make sure your tire gauge is working corrected as some are not very accurate. Check your gauge against other gauges to see the difference if any.

All season tires tend to wear longer so roughly 25,000 to 30,000+ is not too much to expect. Summer tires last about 15,000- 20,000+ miles.

Maybe it's time to consider a grand touring tire!

I have the SPT (205/45/17) and they are good but like the original post I only got about 18K before they fell apart. I have used them for some HPDE events but they ware pretty darn fast. I am considering trying the Toyo Proxie 4 this time around...
