Studs needed for R90's on 06 MCC

I searched but I think I have a new one.

I have a 06 MCC. 14mm studs, correct? It has the 5 star 16" rims. The studs are black and are covered by the center cap.

I'm replacing them with R90's so I assume chrome studs are in order? Where should I go? Gorilla?

Do you have the factory lug bolts on the car or have they been changed over to studs?

If they are the black lug bolts, I would use those on the R90s, unless of course they are 14mm, they won't fit the lug holes on the R90s.

I rotated the tires and I honestly can't remember, it is factory though so it must be factory lug bolts.

Are you kidding me? Are you saying the R90's won't fit because I have 14mm?

As far as I know, MINI continued to supply the same OEM wheels throughout 2006 even as they changed the bolt size. I believe OEM wheels have holes large enough to accomodate 14mm bolts. I have only seen the problem mentioned in connection with some (not all) aftermarket wheels. There are posts from GP owners (they all have 14mm bolt size) who have fitted OEM 16" and 17" wheels.

In the worst case you can use a stud conversion such as to be offered by Texas Speedwerks: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=86777

After doing a lot of searching and reading I have found that the 14mm weren't made until July06 and since mine was made in May I have the 12mm. I also learned that the R90's and all other OEM rims will still fit on the 14mm anyways.

So back to my original question. Did OEM R90's come with chrome or stainless 12mm studs?

R90's come with black lug bolts. I don't think MINI offers chrome lug bolts at all.

By the way, the correct terminology is bolts not studs. They are different things (studs use nuts at the end). You can convert your wheels to use studs/nuts instead of bolts.

rkw, Thank you. Darn it, I can't freakin believe I said studs again. After reading all those other posts you would think I would get it straight.

Frankly I'm surprised Mini uses black bolts on the R90's. I would think stainless would look much nicer. I guess I'll use my black bolts and see how they look. I have the 5 star rims and the bolts are covered. I'll see if I like them exposed on the R90's. If I hate them I assume I can find replacements at Gorilla or something.
