Hey, Guys!

Recently I placed my MCS order in detail for my June delivery.
I ordered 17" performance tire which is Pirelli's.
However I still wonder if I made right choice of tire.
My dealer says Pirelli's runs shorter than Goodyear's by 10,000 mile.
What about performance of each under the winter condition with snow???
Please tell me about your experience with Goodyear/all season or Pirelli/performance.

I would apprecite your precious comments!

There are a few points to consider:

Pirelli = 22 pounds Goodyear = 30 pounds each
Pirelli = 3 season only Goodyear = "all-season" but poor traction in snow!
The Pirelli's have very fast treadwear, and the Goodyear's will last much longer.

Since you're in Ohio, You'll probley need snow tires, or equivalent. Having said that, I ordered the Pirelli's. I plan on burning off the Pirelli's this summer, then using my factory S-lites as winter-wheels and getting a set of Pirelli Wintersport 240's in OEM sizes, and getting a summer wheel/tire combo (with much lighter wheels).

I've had the Goodyear RS-A's on some past cars, and I didn't like them (mediocre wet traction, horrible in snow - it's a "comfort-enthusiast" tire). When I saw the weight difference versus the Pirelli's, plus my past experience, it's "anything but RS-A" for my MINI.

Good luck, Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Luthier.
The Pirelli's are totally useless in the snow. This is to be expected, of course.
I kept them on through the first snow we had here in New England. After the first snow fall and getting stuck and barely moving in the snow I took them off and put on some 16" wheels with Michelin snow tires. You should see the MINI go in the snow now! No problem.

I got caught with the Dunlop performance tires on in a 2" snow fall --yikes!!! That was a scary drive to work. I switched out for the stock Dunlop all-weathers for the rest of the winter, and they handle just fine in the snow. As soon as I burn through the all-weathers, I'm gonna get snow tires. I highly recommend going with dedicated snow tires...the difference is amazing !

I have the Pirelli tires on my MCS and I agree whole heartedly with what has been posted here.

Hey, thank you all, guys.
I really appreciate it.
It really looks like I need to get all-season tires rather than Pirelli's performance.
I found that the rating of Pirelli's Eufori@ is 180AA which actually means less milage life...
I would hate the winter motoring with such a slppery equipment.
Well, in fact, tires are the most important devices for motoring, aren't they?

Thanks again, MCO friends!

I would say dedicated winter tire give the most controllabilty in adverse conditions.

The UTQG wear rating is designed to compair within a brand, its not a universal scale. Goodyear to Goodyear, or Pirell to Pirelli. If you get 2 different manufature with the same treadware number they very likely can have diffrent wear charateristics.

To thuroughly confuse the matter the traction and temperature (AA A) are universal federal standards.

I would tend to agree that tires are the most consiquental part of your vehicle, its the only way you touch the road

Thaaaanks, Alex !!!

I got one last question for you.
What is your "personal" recommendation for MCS's winter tire?
16" or 17" ? Which brand and what product ???

I'm asking just personal preference...
Let's motor!

In 15 and 16 I prefer Bridgestone Blizzak ws-50. It offers the highest degree of snow, and ice traction of any tire I handle. It does however put sporty dry road handeling charateristics back seat to adverse conditions traction. Usually snow tires are bought for thier saftey, and security in bad condtitons.

In 17 I would use the Pirelli winter 240. Excelent dry road handeling, better snow and ice traction than any allseason. Only down side is that its not a quiet tire. Snow tires don't tend to be silent, and this is a prime example. If you wish to maintain your sport coupe handeling all year long, this is a good choice.

Dear Alex,

What a great and pin-point comment !!

As a conclusion, I would order my MCS with 17" all-season for day to day use and I'll get some winter tires when the temperature gets down.

Of course I will buy tires from Tire Rack !!!

Thanks !!
