Tire Advice

Hi.

I need some advice.
I have a 2004 Cooper S with 19.000 miles.
I got a nail in one of the run flats - and it cannot be repaired.
The rest of the tires have between 5 - 6 / 32 of tread left.
My choices are to replace the one tire (at roughly $325 - it's the Goodyear Runflat), or buy 4 new non-runflat and a can of Fix-A-Flat.

What would you guys do?

Also, any advice on tires? I live in Boston so am leaning toward all seasons.

Thanks.
Sean

Go to www.tirerack.com & buy 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 non-runflats. You didn't say what size tires you have. I had Pirelli 205/45/17 & went to Goodyear size 215/45/17. I got them for $393 delivered (the WR speed rated ones are on sale for $88 each)

Or that's what I just did (but these are performance not all-season)

it's the same size, bamatt. 205/45.
the rear tires are starting to go too, i think.
sounds like there's a helicopter in my car on the highway.
so am leaning toward replacing all 4.

but...aren't the goodyears you mention summer tires?
that might not work so well...

Yeah they are summer performance. They handle good. I just got them on yesterday. I have read that the all-season tires don't handle as well in the twisties

Don't wait around if you want them because they have been on sale for over a month & last week they said "sale price" but this week they say "closeout price" so they may be almost out. The YR rated ones are still over or around $135 each, it is the WR rated ones that are on sale (that rating is fine unless you plan on going over 168MPH )

I've heard run flats cannot be repaired once they've been hit. Is this always the case?

Depends on the location of the puncture, and the amount of service w/o pressure - or for that matter on lower pressure.
