Team Dynamic Wheels questions (and NAM's mixed answers)

Hi,

Im considering getting a set of Team Dynamic Racing Wheels for track use. Ive been searching this board for information and Im getting mixed answers about fitment, different versions of the same model being shipped, etc etc..

Im confused and would like clarity. I want to run my stock size. Currently running R99's with 205/45 Goodyear Eagle FS

Heres what I need to know:

1) I have the JCW brakes now and plan to move to Stoptech in the future. Can I run the TDR wheels without spacers?

2) I need "hubs" or not?

3) I need new lug nuts or not?

4) is the only difference in the 1 vs. the 1.2 the stamped lettering or not?

5) Do retailers have an inventory problem with these wheels? If so, how long can I expect to wait?

6) What alternatives would you suggest I consider, assuming that I dont want to run spacers with the JCW or Stoptech kit?

Thanks everyone...

You can use the stock 'bolts.'

You definitely need hubs. And centering rings also. Metal if you expect cherry red rotors.

Don't know about the brakes fitting. Since you did not mention size, expect someone to ask.

1. from what everyone tells me the td 1.2s will clear any big brake kit. as far as i know +45 offset or more.. that is as much as i know about that.

2. the wheels *should* come with hubcentric rings. you will want to use these to properly center the wheel on the hub before tightening

3. you do not need new lugs, stock work fine for me. if you get black you will probably want to get the black mini lugs from the dealership or a stud conversion.

4. the difference between the td 1s and the 1.2s: the v1.2 has a bigger lip around the wheel, where the v1s spokes connect to the very outside of the lip, the v1.2s have about a half inch before the end of the rim. the 1.2s also have "team dynamics" embossed(?) into the outside edge of the rim, where the v1s have team dynamics on the very inside by the lugs and i believe it is either painted or a sticker.

5. talk to aaron at outmotoring.com - he got me my black 1.2s shipped out to me in about a week. aaron is the man to talk to for td wheels.

hope that helps you out!

Theres a guy here that had some problems with his tires... Hes got TD wheels and a Stoptech kit... and spacers to fit his wheels. So... Enjoy your AWESOME new TD wheels but be careful when you get tires, he was rubbing and lost a trim piece while driving down the freeway!

As for a BBK (I am WAY biased) there is always the Detroit Tuned kit... Same size pistons and pads and such... but smaller caliper (no extra material) and WAY cheaper than the JCW and Stoptech kits....
DT kit

I have these 17" Pro Racing One wheels on my JCW MCS w/ the JCW brake kit- no problem w/ fit. The Team Dynamics is not in black letters, but is stamped into the rims. Went w/ the black lugs, which I like fine. Had them special ordered @ America's Tire Co. in Oregon.

Yes, they fit great over my JCW brakes
2) I need "hubs" or not?
by "hubs" i assume you mean hub centric rings, and yes
3) I need new lug nuts or not?
Nope, unless you don't like black
4) is the only difference in the 1 vs. the 1.2 the stamped lettering or not?
pretty much, the 1.2 has a little larger rim, they're very similar
5) Do retailers have an inventory problem with these wheels? If so, how long can I expect to wait?
Yes, about a week (Webb Motorsports)
6) What alternatives would you suggest I consider, assuming that I dont want to run spacers with the JCW or Stoptech kit?
ummmmmmm, no idea

PR1.2 wheels (in a 45mm offset) should fit over stoptech, wilwood, JCW and Outlaw BBK's without spacers but I am not sure about Brembo as they are massive calipers. The Pro Race 1.2 is a great looking wheel and are super strong. I have been running them since Feb of 2007 on my R56 with no issues.

here's a link to our wheels section:

and the Pro Race 1.2:

DT kit
He had TDR PR2 with 37ET and 15mm spacers to clear the ST (combined ET=22!!!)...no wonder he was popping off his fenders

My TDR PR1 has 45ET and clears the ST by 7mm easily...

What he said!
I also switched from those evil wheel bolts to Turner MotorSport Long Studs and BMP/Pro-MINI alloy lug nuts.

I also went with stud conversion (50mm) and installed 5mm spacers to bring the ET down to 40...still plenty of clearance for aggressive track encounters...

You could ask 1nf3rn0 to meet up with Chad and have them find out for you...

From what my racing friends tell me, one of the reasons that Team Dynamics switched to the 1.2 design is that the Pro Race 1's could tend to cut tires of competitors during wheel-to-wheel contact... Shrug.

Also, be aware that I've seen one 17" TD PR1 wheel fail on the track - believe it or not, the spoke seperated from the lip. Chalk it up to a failure from the manufacturing process. I believe that TD replaced the wheel under warranty, though... They have an excellent reputation and stand behind their products, evidently!

Im a little late here, sorry. Call Don at 909-947-0114. He runs the North American TD facility. Tell him Shawn with the red and Black Cooper S sent you. He'll set you up with what you need and give you a good price.

Here's some pictures of the wheels along with the Graphics that Central Coast Coopers and I did for the Monterey Historics.

Outmotoring carries a great selection of TD wheels. My TD Tornados (PR1's with 8 lug holes instead of 4) 17x7" with 45mm offset did not come with hubcentric rings. The factory lug nuts worked fine, but I still switched to 42mm studs. There is plenty of room for a BBK. Great set of wheels as far as I'm concerned.

Just a personal opinion but I prefer V1 to 1.2 because the spoke shift shallowed up the hub depth...it's a trade off...

I'm still curious if 1.2 would fit a Stoptech...without spacers, my V1 had 7mm clearance...the new spoke shift might cut it close enough to prohibit using these calipers...
