So My MCS finally pi$$ed me off...

Went outside on this, a lovely spring day here in the NE to finally mount my new TrakLite/Falkens and what to I find once I've popped the hubcaps off my X-Lites? A frigging security lug. No tool to remove said lug found inside the jack pouch. Is the presence of this lug SOP or did my dealer do me a, ahem, favor or is there a lug removal tool hidden somewhere that I'm uaware of?

Did you check in the styrofoam block stored by the battery? I've found many interesting things in there

You guys had security lugs? Is this dependent on your dealer, or the type of wheel, or...?

I have 2 sets of security lugs, 1 from dealer in Vancouver and 1 ordered from the US.
They both match.
I ordered a set before the car arrived and didn't know the dealer included a set.

EDIT:
I now have a set for sale... I just tried them on my new wheels and they don't fit into the bolt holes.

If anyone is interested let me know.

it just seemed like his were on there from the dealer without his knowledge, not like he ordered them or asked for them.

Yep, I just spoke to my MA, and indeed they did me a favor . I suppose if you think of MINI owners as a Cult, it makes a lotta sense to include a Lug Removal Machine. ...bad, possibly obscure pun son...

My dealership insisted on adding security locks (and on charging me for them). I suppose the upside is that I at least knew they were there.

Kind of makes me wonder though. If all dealerships are adding them anyway, why doesn't MINI just make them parrt of the standard wquipment. (That was a rhetorical question ).

Now I'm off to check that styrofoam block...

I HATE wheel locks...

All they have done for me is make life harder.... And the dealer does that because they cost the dealer a few $ and they charge a lot to add them on. Makes real good margin!

I'll never take them again. (Didn't come on the Mini, did on my MDX)

I'm sorry for him....

But I don't have "on street parking" like that, so while it is always a risk, it's a very, very small one.

FWIW, the wheels I have on my mini take an allen socket to remove, and I've already had issues with service guys not remembering where the MDX wheel lock key is, and having issues with service taking much longer than it should. Seems no matter what, the guys who actually do the work don't read the note about the wheel locks that's put on the work order...

Matt

How many people do you know who have had wheels stolen? The post reference was the second one in my entire life, your milage may very!

RU Serious because I know the good Doctor is not a troll.

That all depends upon where you live. Can't speak for CA but for the other side of the country ...

It's been said to never drive less than 40 mph on the Cross Bronx Xpressway cause they can strip a Vette in 10 mins

Seriously now ... As a wee lad, I went to college in downtown Boston. At the time ... really bad idea to take a nice car. Ppl just didn't put radios in so the windows didnt get smashed.

One guy went out to start is Z28 ... nuthin ... popped the hood ... no engine ... true story.

Cars up on blocks ALL the time in the not so good areas of town. In fact, it was a good idea to take your beater into town and nothing else.

Better story ... large University parking lot ... little kids would go try EVERY car door in the lots while class in session. Anything not bolted down (and some that was) ... gone.

I suppose it could be better now but I doubt it.

My '04 MCS came with locking lugs. I wasn't charged for them either.

For me, wheel locks would be nothing but an annoyance. I could see their usefulness if you lived somewhere with a high crime rate, but in my suburbia world, I would be truly dumbfounded if my wheels disappeared. Besides the fact that my car sleeps in the garage, my workplace is relatively in the middle of no where and we have security on the lot and anytime I have to go into the actual city, the Scion gets to go instead of my Bruno

I'd agree that it depends a lot on where you live and park.

A friend of mine that lived in manhatten parked with his glove open and the ashtray out so that anyone could see there was nothing there, and not bother braking a window to search for change (he parked on the street a lot).

Where I live, that's not an issue, so for me it would just be a hassle...

I thought MINI already made the factory wheels theft resistant, by making them nearly impossible to remove even after all the lugs are out? There's always a thread in the suspension forum about not being able to remove the wheels.

I'm gonna side with the Dr. on this one.

The stock MINI wheel loks are complete pieces of crap. I stripped two of them, and I'm not a complete moron. I'm a half moron. I've had many other brands of wheel locks on other cars and other wheels, and none of them was ever as cheap as the ones I got with the MINI.

I'm finished with wheel locks, too. You want to steal my x-lites? Be my guest.

RJ, real men do not have hub caps on their MCS's

In case you were confused about the comment, I'm the co-founder of Dazed & Confused AX & Racing. You know how to reach me ;-)

Lobo6? Have you cleared that handle with the Team Boss? Where are the other 2 sixes? He's been in a pretty pi$$y mood ever since his Playstation died. I wouldn't test him, he's in a tear-your-contract-to-bits kinda mood.

As you well know, TBI has extended my driving contract until 2017 or 2016. As far as the "other" 6's goes. Well you stole em for your NAM number. But you'll never get them for the track. I'd get TBI a new playstation before your contract gets flushed. BTW, the infamous Sir Charles was seen today @ Mini of Peabody buying a MCS, see the power we have over people?
