understanding the dealer-install wheels..

bumping to this thread...

So if I don't order a sports package (just go with the 16's), and add the R99's in silver ($1011) in the "accessories" (step 5) of the miniusa customizer, I'll end up with a set of 16's with tires, and a set of 17" R99 wheels, but *NO* 17" tires???

NO, you get R99s with tires. Those prices are in ADDITION to the standard price.

So.. just to be really clear (sorry i'm retarded.. )

If I get the stock 16" wheels and then add the R99's for $1011, I will get the following:

1 set of 16" stock wheels shod with all-season run-flats
1 set of 17" R99 wheels shod with performance run-flats

correct?

NO NO NO! You get ONE set of R99s on the car with tires

that is IT. OK?

the extra $ just goes to the price of those wheels!

Also..
I presume that if I were to get the sports package with the upgraded web-spoke wheels, then I *only* get those wheels and tires. They don't ship the car over with the 16" x-lites too, do they?

gotcha...

i only ask because a friend of mine bought the R90 wheels a while back when he ordered his mini and he asked about the 16" wheels and the dealer said "oh you want those"

So he was able to keep his 16" rims, although he didn't get the tires.

Anyway, thanks for clarifying

Okay - here is what will happen:

You've added the sports pkg. That includes 17" s-lites. You can't change that to 16".

You then add the R99 (silver). That adds $1011.

R99 -> 4 x $250 = $1000
hub cap -> 4 x $2.75 = $11

The R99s do not come with tires. If you want tires with them, that's $1995 for the set (R99s/tires).

Since these are dealer installed options, the dealer may (probably will) charge you a fee to have the tires taken off the s-lites and mounted to the R99s.

You'll end up with R99s on your MINI with the tires that came with s-lites and 4 s-lites with nothing on them.

Web spokes are a whole different story.

Web spokes are installed at the factory. They are the ONLY other rim that can be installed at the factory. If you get the sports pkg, they can replace the s-lites for an extra $500. If you don't get the sports pkg, then they are $1100.

If you want the web spokes, get the sports pkg and opt for the them - at $500 for 4 rims it's not a bad deal.

Yep, it all makes sense. Thanks.

I just talked to the dealer I'm going with (John at Patrick Mini) and discussed this, trying to get a spare set of 16's for "free", but like you say, they have to have the factory 17" tires to put on the R99's, otherwise I'd have to pay for a new set of tires.

I'm starting to really like the web spokes, and $500+ extra dollars for a set of bare s-lites and r99's on my car doesn't seem worth it.

Thanks for the clarification!
