Low pressure monitor sensitivity

I am pleased with the sensitivity performance of the low pressure monitor system. Yesterday the light came on, I checked all the tires, three had the 33 psi that I had put in, the right rear was at 25 psi. Sure enough found a small nail in the tread. Have an appointment at my local tire store to fix today. Similar systems on my previous and current BMW's have also done their job well. BTW, I have aftermarket wheels/non runflats and have no qualms whatsoever of having one of them internally patched.

I remember when I ordered my Mini, my MA told me the monitor would not work with aftermarket wheels, as they didn't have a sensor. I thought better of what he said later, and later still I found out (here on NAM) how the system actually works.

Congrats on your system working! Saved you a lot of trouble, I'm sure.

I trust my Low pressure monitor. Twice it has alerted me to stuff stuck in my tires causing a leak. Once in a non runflat and just recently in my winter wear run flats. It detected a 2.5 lb. difference.

I have one slow leaking falken tire and my monitor tells me every few weeks when it loses just a few pounds of pressure. I try to keep tabs on it myself with a gauge, but its a good reminder.

Wagnbat,

Do you remember who your MA was? Which dealership?

Can anyone recommend a good spare tire (with rim) and storage bag? What did you pay? Would you buy the same model again? Will the tire monitor work with it?

So how does this thing work? Will it work with ANY aftermarket Non-Runflat tire?

The low pressure monitor uses the ABS sensors to detect a change in tire size when it begins losing air. There is nothing internal so any tire/wheel combo will work. You do need to "recalibrate" it per owners manual after making any changes.
