Tires wear quickly?

Let me start off by saying I have had my Mini for about 6-7 months(purchased new) driven 7,111 miles and I am 21 years old. That should give you an idea as to how I have been driving her.......

My Goodyear Eagle RSa's in the front are about 1/2 tread. Does that seem right to everyone else?

This will mean i will get about 4 seasons out of my 17" wheels due to the fact that I purchased a set of 15" standard cooper wheels on ebay.

Let me know how this sounds to you...I think it sounds like they went quick....

P.S. I don't turn the DSC off EVER and I really never chirp the tires......but I drive like a bat outta hell.

i had the pirelli run-flats with mine and they were toast at 16,000 miles with fairly hard cornering on a regular basis. i've had plenty of performance tires in the past (never runflats though) that lasted around 20-25k miles--which is the most i would expect from them...16k seems weak, but then again, i haven't had enough experience with runflats to really compare.

I toasted the runflats in under 12k.

I killed a set of Goodyear F1 GS3Gs in a weekend of track work.

You'll be happy when the run-flats are gone. They suck. The Mini suffers from not enough neg camber in the front for serious cornering, and the tires will wear on the outer front edge really fast. If you don't do anything about the camber, rotate every 3000 miles or you will be toast.

Even if you aren't a track rat, the camber plates are worth it, and will pay for themselves in a set of tires. I'm running -2.1 deg in the front, have three track events on the tires, and have even wear with over 10k on the tires now, and I should get another ten before they're shot. I'm running the Goodyear F1s again, and they are much softer than the runflats.

So, for a spirited 21 year old, you're doing better than I did, as a thrashing ~40 year old!

Matt

Well... that sounds about right. Me... 3 years, 3 sets of tires, 30k miles. These cars are just too fun to drive!

I've done just around 3000miles/5500 kms, and my front tires were 30% worn. 90% dry weather here, no snow yet, on the stock 15" contis

Hey I thought squealing = good for the tires... maybe I was wrong!

2 sets of Yoko ES100's now BEFORE the camber changes, religious rotation every 4k miles and I got 12K miles out of each set... driving spiritedly...

Now that I have slowed down a bit on the road (thanks to gas prices), I hope the new BFG G-Force Sports last a bit longer - especially since my track tire budget has doubled per year 'cuz I went to Michelin Pilot Sport Cups from Falken Azenis...

squealing = 8/10ths - time for higher performance tires!

My front euphorias are getting close at 18K+. The rears look prestine. I suppose I will rotate them to squeeze out another year, and then switch them all out for non-run flats.

Be careful putting your worn tires in the rear as it could (and often times does) lead to oversteer in the wet. There are schools of thought on this, but I would venture to guess that most MINI owners would advise you to keep the better tires in the rear so that the worst the car could do is understeer (since the front tires wouldn't be gripping and the rears would). Granted, either could happen at any time, but it is my understanding that worn tires in the rear will greatly increase your chances of spinning that bad boy around.

Thanks for the input mbcoops. That's actually why I posted. I'll keep it in mind before I do anything w/ the tires.
