Slites really 55 pounds each?
Slites really 55 pounds each?
Are the Slites really 55lbs each? I was reading another post on this forum, and if so
!!!
Are there any other cons to Slites that I should be aware of as an Slite newb?

The wheels themselves are just over 25 pounds (over twice the weight of the supposedly wimpy/dorky 15" holies). The runflats are heavy, but I don't think they bring you to 55 pounds. I think I remember reading something like 47 pounds for the combo.
Here's a great FAQ from mini2.com. I don't know why NAM doesn't have something similar.

As I wrote in my thread on them when I switched - the MINI2 faq is dead wrong. YES they are that heavy - I weighed mine coming off the car (new).
I dropped 11 lbs. per corner with aftermarket wheels (not light weight even) and ES100 tires (stock 17" size).
In the end though, it makes no difference on the street, I can't tell a bit of difference, except the added grip right off the line.

No difference? I dropped the s-lites & went to 15" rewinds. My car feels like it picked up 10 ponies & stops noticeably quicker too.

Maybe you just didn't correctly read my statement. I said on the street.
I don't drive it on a road track, nor do I drive it on the street as IF I WERE on a road track. It makes no difference driving normally on the street. No one I gave rides too could tell any difference either - ride is just as stiff, same sound, same cornering, same reaction over the same bumps, dips and streets. Aside from the added traction of the tires right off the line, it was a purely asthetic swap.

!!!for 17". If you look at a Non-RF like the Goodyear F1, its 20 pounds for a 40 series 225. Two pounds is not worth worrying about for real life driving.
Unless your really going racing (not a track day but some SCCA sanctioned thing) then unsprung weight probably don't mean much in everyday driving. If you want to get into racing, then unsprung weight means a great deal, far more than just taking weight off the car (I believe).
Hope that helps.

FYI (ppl selling wheels/tires and shipping)
UPS has a weight limit of 150 so dont try to ship all 4 tgt like I did..
on the UPS scale with runflat tires they were 101 pounds with 2 in each box. the 2 boxes insured for $300 from TN to IN reg ground shipping was $165.

I am interested in the tire/wheel weight issue from an acceleration point of view, but plead total ignorance. Is 55 lbs heavy? Then what is appreciably lighter? I read on an old thread that shaving pounds off the wheels makes a substantial difference in straight line. Anyone want to help educate me? (No Mini left behind).

I'm also interested in what is 'appreciably lighter' than the stock Slites/Runflat combo. At first I thought it was solely the S-Lites which were 55lbs, and that was the reason I started the thread... But after some edification by our community, I'm wondering how much shaving 7lbs per wheel 'really' helps.
