15 and 16 inch steelies

Ok guys, heres one......

To finish my MC40/MonteCarlo 64 Replica, I need to get my hands on a set of either 15 or 16 inch steel wheels. I would prefer that they looked decent ( I really dont want a set of spare tire wheels......)

Any ideas???

MINI makes a 15" steel wheel for the MINI ONE
http://www.mini2.com/qt/r12_wheel.mov
R12 (with hubcap) et 45 14.8lb (6.7kg) silver only
Check with Classic MINI to see if you can order a set.
You can leave off the hubcaps and paint the steel wheels.

Tire Rack sells 15 and 16 inch steel wheels (black) as part of their winter tire packages. If they where repainted white, they would look more or less like the wheels in the picture. There are 14 holes in the wheel and the holes are 1.5 inches in diameter. Tire Rack was selling them for $40 as with a tire purchase. (They were adding free mount and balance.) They might or might not want more if you are not buying tires.

On the other hand, this type of wheel may be what you meant by "spare tire wheel."

You really have options for any 15" ro 16" wheel that looks similar to your idea of a Monte Carlo mini wheel.

One option is to go with a set of white 15" holeys or 8 spokes- it IS the equivalent of the traditional wheels, just updated to the current era.

Or the suggestion of snow tire wheels in 15" or 16" in steel from tirerack is also good.
In 15x5.5" you have

Which are black painted but you could paint them white as well. $44 each
http://www.tirerack.com/snow/WinterW...el#results_top
Or come in 16x5.5" with colors and styles that may vary for $50 each.
Talk to Alex@tirerack.com for more info if interested.

Somebody (hint) oughta even make a chrome half-moon hubcap for a wheel like this with "MINI" stamped in the middle. Classy, classic, understated...just please keep it light!!

Holeys are lighter than these and so are still a good choice for a traditional look. 16" Minilites even weigh in at about 16 lbs, so holeys remain the best bet as far as weight goes.

Call Alex@tirerack to find the weight of the steel wheels.
I think painting the holeys black or anthracite would be an option and lighter.
I've seen them gloss black and they were fine. Steel should be heavier- since they are cheaper.

I just like the looks of the steel wheels, they look just like the 65 Cooper I use to have.
I have the 17in S-lites now I bet theres not that much diff in weight between the steel 15s and these S-lites??

I'll have to look into it, the Holeys seem the way to go.

Baby Moon hubcaps?

I love the retro look with steel wheels and baby moon caps.

Has anyone found where to find hub caps that will fit?

I couldn't find baby moons which i would love to have for winter. I did find full stainless racing disks. I just haven't been able to talk myself into buying them.http://www.autoenhance.com/sim11.html

Look under hub caps. I played around with some of the clip on disks on a VW with steel wheels ... it was fun.

OldSchool- that is awesome....exactly what I'm looking for. Please tell me it's not a photoshop job......

I checked with Mooneyes, they don't sell front wheel drive wheels. Do you know if Mooneyes hubcaps will fit any steel wheels? Do you know where I can get steel wheels for the Mini, and buy hubcaps that fit too?

Thanks

This is the look (without the white walls) that I was thinking of for my winter wheels. I got 15" steel wheels from the tirerack and have been trying to figure out how caps like this would fit. Any ideas?

PHOTOSHOP!

You can buy clip-on hubcaps that should fit steel wheels from many places. Pulled this up on a google search:

http://www.hubcapmike.com/racing_disc_wheelcovers.html

JCwhitney has some as well.

On the Steelies .. dumb question .. has anyone check with there local Junkyard. If you plan on putting Hubcaps on them they dont have to be in Perfect Rust free condition. At a local junkyard i was able to find 4 Steelies with Tires for 50 bucks and i plan on getting the Racer hubs with new tires to go on them.. Its Just a thought

Mugami,

Do you remember what type of car those wheels were from? I think that civics and Miata's are the same bolt pattern and offset, but I am not sure.

thanks for the links I am worried that the tirerack steelies dont have any lip to mount a clip on baby moon. A full cover or something that clips to the lugs is the only thing that looks like it would work. Any ideas?

This look is way cool

What an Idea, get some Honda steel wheels 15" with our bolt pattern 4x100 add some inexpensive snow tires 185x65x15 and these hub caps for Winter wear. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=11
No brake cooling issues during our Winters here in Md. No snow and ice build up in the wheels.
Picture credit and thanks to oldschool.
