Wheelmax Tuner Spline Key

Hey, everyone.

Just got my Exel BK-7 18x7.5's, w/ 225/35 GS-D3's on the car. I'll post pics and my experiences later today in another thread.

But, in the meantime, the Spline Key that WheelMax sends is a real POS. I only torqued my bolts to 50-lbs. (b/c I could tell the key was giving) & it's already destroyed.

So, I'm going to have to pick up a new spline key. Preferably not another from WheelMax (or, JustForWheels).

You guys know where I can get a good spline key that will work, and last?

Thanks ahead of time.

Zack

get McGard splinedrive lugs (w/ locks), they're by far the best lugs I've seen. Used them on a different car, but I've removed them and tigthened them at least 30 times and they still look/feel absolutely perfect.

I've heard of those, but they only list key'ed end lugbolts for MINI apps, vs tuner's w/ splines.
http://www.mcgard.com/automotive/

Maybe they don't make M12 x 1.5 tuner's?

Thanks.

Zack

BTW, I put some pics on the original post of my newly deformed spline key. And, like I said--only 50-ft-lbs....

I don't know if they do lug bolts, my experience on a different car was tuner lug nuts. I'm probably going to convert my Mini to lug studs so I can use the mcgard nuts w/ my kosei's

Well, I dug a little deeper:
http://www.mcgard.com/automotive/pro...page=4&group=3

Part #'s 27178 & 27179 are the normal bolts they list for the MINI.

Looks like #'s 27191 or 27192 under the Tuner section would work--though, 29.6mm is prob a little long, so 27192 is prob the one to go with.

Thanks, xizor.

Other brands? Or anyone just replace their WheelMax key with a better one?

I believe tirerack.com has those McGards. that's the only splines I would

use if I chose to use them. I don't use wheel locks on my cars.

I don't use locks, either.

Guess I'm still trying to track down a full set, or good key replacement.

Thanks.

Well, I order another one of those POS keys, so I can get my wheels off.

And, picked these up:

Wow that's weird - I wonder if they had a bad batch or something. I got mine a couple weeks ago and it's fine

Another great name in lugs is Gorilla. I have there spline lug bolts that I got from Discount Tire Direct. They aren't cheap china crap. Well, made and do not strip.

Give Gorilla nuts a try !!

I too received bad keys from WheelMax. It took 2 keys to mount 4 wheels! I sent them an angry email and they said a "reinforced key" would be sent. The package showed up with 2 more keys. These “reinforced keys” are amazingly manufactured to look exactly like the “standard POS key”. So now I’m looking for a stud conversion kit or some nice chrome bolts as well.
