Brake suggestions

Just took my car in to have it checked before the next AMTD. Found out I'm in need of new front pads and rotors. What do you guys suggest for a good all around (a few track days a year, spirited daily driver) replacement set? I've read the posts warning of the dangers of drilled rotors and I'm presently leaning towards Powerslots and Hawk HPS pads. If I just do the fronts this week, am I going to screw up the braking balance of the car? Any suggestions for a low cost supplier for these bits as this came as a bit of a surprise (I'm at 20K on the odometer). Also, just saw a BMW ad on tv this evening that listed out all the bits covered by the 4-50K warrantee. It listed pads and rotors as no cost covered items. Why doesn't Mini have the same coverage? It seems most other items are covered in a similar fashion to the BMW line.
Thanks,

About your brakes

I was under the impression from my mini dealer that if the brakes were dead they would cover it under the 4/50k. Call the 800 number if your dealer is sc#wing you.

Yes, brakes and rotors are covered under your warranty!

Just remember Rich, that your dealer (if they cover your rotors, and IMHO they should!) will replace them with OEM rotors.

What you do, I guess, will depend on whether you want the lowest-cost fix, or you want an performance upgrade. As a general rule, I usually take the opportunity to replace components that've worn out with upgraded units.

Hi there...

Get the stuff fixed under warranttee, get better fluid, and brake caliper bushings. I was SHOCKED at how much better things were with just those changes. I think these two will virtually eleiminate fade, except for track rats that go deep in turns A LOT!

I had powerslot and EBC greens, and had fade still. I went to Motul and bushings, and no fade at all, in well over 5 days of track driving, at Infineon and Thunderhill, both need lots of brakes, as they're road courses....

For what it's worth.....

Matt

Any ideas on where to get the improved brake caliper bushings? Any NAM vendors carry them? What's the material they're made from? Any corrosion issues?

Thanks, Bob
