Recommendation on budget 16 inch tires?

Based on what I've heard, I'm prepared to replace my tires every 15k miles or so with my spirited street driving and occasional trips to the canyons. Therefore, I would like to know your thoughts/experiences on these tires from Tire Rack:
*Kuhmo 711
*Sumitomo HTR Z II
*Fuzion ZRI

Since I'm in So Cal, I'm also very interested in your experiences with tires tracking on the freeway grooves. Thanks:smile: !

The 711's are **** poor IMO, I had 712s and wasn't all that happy w/ them, lots of tramelining. I hear great stuff about the ZRi, I don't think you could pick something better for the types of tires you're looking at.

Fuzion ZRI

The Fuzions are great. I've had them on my SSR for about 10K. I have the 205/50/16's and they keep up with me well. The only thing I have to compare them to are the stock all season run flats - which does not say much. But they are much better.

Traction is great on dry/wet conditions. I do hit the corners as fast as possible!

Tread wear seems high at 300 +, but we will let time tell.

And the rim protetecor is a nice touch.

Have you actually driven the 711's you've just advised against? It's not clear from your statement.

The 711's and 712's are entirely different tires. The 712's would actually fit better with the other two tires you've chosen. The 711's are more akin to the Fuzion HRi.

Anyway, given these choices, I'd buy the ZRi, although I'd expect better mileage out of the 711's.

Also in this price range, although not sold by Tire Rack, are several options by Hankook, and something like the Toyo FZ4.

How are they as far as noise and tramlining vs. stock?

I have not expereinced tramlining with the Fuzion's - except where the grooves in the road are so big that everyone feels them. There are spots on the 80 south from sacramento where my old Goodyear allseason GSA runflats would tramline. I do not feel it now.

As for sound. Switching from 45 to 50 series tires has done wonders for reducing cabin noise. Its still noisy but not as bad because of the extra rubber between my rim and the road.

You might want to take a look at the tire reviews on the tirerack. Most of them are pretty good.

Good luck - D

I'm not familiar with the ones listed, but my vote is for the Yoko AVS ES100 and they're only $85 each in a 205/50/16 from Tirerack.

Had them on my E30 BMW and they were fantastic. They're on the short list for when i burn through my run-flats on the MCS.

I've heard & read mixed reviews from others using the Yoko ES100, therefore, if I was to go that route, then the comparison would be between Kumho SPT & Avon M500.
Since Kumho SPT is really new to the market, I don't think there's been much buzz about it.

Green Giant,

What size tires are you looking for?
Are there any other requirements you have?
Like-
Longer tire wear
Smooth quiet ride
Light weight?
All season ability- any rain?
Budget range?

Edgeracing.com has Toyo Proxes 4 and other choices for less than $100 each

Try checking out Avon Tech M500 and M550 at tirerack and talk to alex about how well they might work for you.

Generally, more performance means faster wear, more cost, stiffer ride quality, sometimes more road noise (happens also with wear).

Keep your tire pressures checked and up to correct levels and do alignment when you get the tires or about once yearly.
