Black S-Lites

I have looked and "searched" through the threads for pictures of S-Lites that have been painted black. I have a set of 17's that I am going to use in the winter and I am considering having them painted (or powder coated). I have a PS/B MCS. Two questions:

Does anyone have pictures they can post or link me to an existing thread that I can't seem to find?

Should you paint or powder coat S-Lites for winter use?

Thanks for your help.

Those look great. Thanks. I don't wash as much in the winter so I am considering doing this. I don't think you have that issue where you live.

Nope. Biggest issue here is brake dust, and windblown sand.
BTW, these wheel look great in person.

I powdercoated my s-lites black as well. i have a ds/b mcs, so it's a bit different than what you're looking for, but there are some closeups in my gallery if you'd like to take a look just to get a better view. I love the look and the fact that it's easier to clean and much more durable than the stock paint is an extra bonus.

Thanks Jeff. I like the way they look on your car. Looks like they match the roof great. They make your tires look gray without tire dressing. They really shine.

I talked to a powder coater today and he sent me to a guy to have my s-Lites sandblasted. It was his feeling the S-Lites are already powdercoated and would have to be placed in a 700 degree oven to strip and then sandblast clean. Are S-Lites powder coated?

I do believe that the wheels are simply painted, but powdercoating works only on bare metal, so having them blasted is crucial if you want the finish to be durable and perfect.

You've done the right thing!

I don’t have the answer you’re looking for, but from their weight I think there made of lead if that makes a difference.

Anyone know if the tires need to be unmounted to have it powdercoated?

I would assume you need to remove the tires!

Bare metal wheels, so they can strip and powdercoat the ENTIRE wheel...

My question is, do they then need to remove the powdercoating from the inside of the lug bolt holes, for the proper clearance?

The tires need to be demounted. Powdercoating is essentially a vinyl powder that's electrostatically sprayed onto the surface and then melted and fused in a kiln. No way they're going to do that with the tires on it.

A good powdercoater will know to mask the lug holes, the center hole, and the back of the wheel where it will contact the brake rotor hat so that the powdercoating will not interfere with the fit.
