Cheap decent/good tires :)
Cheap decent/good tires :)
I need new tires because my stupid runflats are getting really worn down, I dont need anything fancy and would like something that is pretty cheap. I want them to last long and I am not worried about crazy performance or anyhting, just every day driving. If you guys could help me out that would be great. I forget the size, but I want the tires to be a little bit wider but still fit on my rims... they are the same size as the stock sport package ones, I think its 17x7???
I have been pretty happy so far with my Falken Ziex 512s. Put them on a couple of months ago. Now that I looked at Edge Racing's site for the plus size (205/45/15 stock-215/40/17 is +1), I find that if I had gone plus size I would have saved about $14 each. Doh!
if you don't mind the stock size

A few in the $70 range including the Falken 512.

The best prices I have found for quality tires in Orange County is at Super Autobacs in Stanton/Garden Grove. Example: Toyo Proxes4 215/45/17 are $94 each plus $10 mounting & balancing. They have much cheaper tires, though. This place is amazing - like a giant candy store for high end go-fast goodies.

If you have the stock wheels and springs, 215/45/17 should not rub. Keep in mind that the 215 is the width in mm, and 45 is the aspect ratio - not the actual sidewall measurement. What that means is that 45 represents 45% of the width so on a 215 wide tire "45" has a 96.75mm sidewall while "45" is a 92.25mm sidewall on a 205, 87.75mm on a 195, etc. These are rough sizes and may vary depending on the tire.

The offset is the difference between the exact middle of the width of the wheel and the face in which the wheel makes contact with the mounting surface or hub.
