Avon M500 215-45-17 rub?

I've looked through the forum, and not found many posts about Avon tires in 17 inch sizes. Most posts are about 15 or 16 inch sizes, possibly because Avon doesn't sell the stock 17 inch size for MINIs: 205-45-17.

On an MCS with stock suspension, will Avon M500 215-45-17 rub with any of these wheels?

MINI S-lite 17x7 offset 50mm
Kosei K-1 Racing 17x7.5 offset 45mm
OZ Superleggera 17x7 offset 37mm
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 17x7 offset unknown-I haven't been able to find it yet.

Can't speak for Avons , but I can tell you that 215/45/17 Kuhmo on R90s will not rub on an MCS with SS.

I'm pretty sure the offset on the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 is 44mm. I have a set on order. They are in a container somewhere between the U.K. and Los Angeles. They say another 7-10 days. I'm using the same Avon M500's also. When I get them mounted and installed, I'll let you know if they rub.

Team Dynamics Wheels

Take a look here for Team Dynamics Wheels information for their competition wheels:
http://www.teamdynamicsracing.com/co...ion_wheels.htm

TD wheel offset for the Pro Race 1 is normally 45 on a wheel intended for use on a MINI. This should be fine with the 215/45/17 tires insofar as rubbing is concerned. Also take a look at the new Pro Race 1.2 wheels, which are just now coming to the US. They replace the Pro Comp wheels and are like the Pro Race, but with straight spokes.

I've ordered a set of Pro Race 1.2's , 17 x 7.5 that will be shipping in about a week (after waiting a year for TD to make the Pro Comp in a 17 x 7 wheel).
The Pro Race 1.2 can be made with an offset of 48 or 50...like the MINI S-Lite which has an ET of 50.

With an ET of 50, 48, or 45, there will be minimal rubbing, if any with a stock suspension; but if you're gonna go with the OZ Superleggera at ET 37, your're asking for rubbing with the 215/45/17; whereas with a stock size 205/45/17, there shouldn't be any.

Take a look here for the TD Fitment Guide for the MINI

Dunwaiten,
Any MINI with stock suspension can use aftermarket wheels with offset within +37mm to +50mm with no rubbing when the tire size (outer diameter) is near to stock or smaller.

Avon M500 are excellent ultra high perf summer tires. $104 each 280 wear
See Alex@tirerack.com for more info
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=Tech+M500

No rubbing with any of those rims.

For those that need ultra high perf all season tires Avon makes M550 A/S
in the same size for $98 each 360 wear
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ech+M550+A%2FS
All seasons are good if you have rain and a little light snow or if you want a bit more wear out of your tires for a reasonable price and don't need quite as much performance.

I was told by Alex that the OZ Superlegg's with the Avon tires would probably require dremeling of the rear bumper brackets due to rubbing. If anyone has different info I'd like to know as these are the wheels I like the most so far. I also asked him about the Kosei K1 TS which is a +42 and he said it should be no problem.

Take a look at the Pro Race 1.2

I liked the look of the Supperleggeras too, but the offset was too aggressive for a 214/45/15 tire,so I went to the Team Dynamics Pro Comp. (See Post #4 above for the link) (Same number of spokes, with an open hub, available in anthracite, but TD never got around to making them in a 7 x 17.) The "same" wheel with a closed hub (Monza) was available, and I didn't like the Pro Race because of the curved spokes. Then the Pro Race 1.2 came along; and although it only has 12 spokes, they're straight, and the offset is perfect.

Thanks

Thanks to all,

My objectives and constraints with this 2005 MCS tire/wheel combo, coming from stock MINI S-Lites with Pirelli Euphori@ 205/45/17 run-flats are:
1) 17" wheels for looks
2) reduced tramlining on my daily freeway commute on grooved concrete freeway
3) reduced up-and-down jarring
4) quiet tires
5) no rubbing with stock suspension and without shaving any body parts
6) reduced wheel/tire weight
7) retain the fun factor on curves
8) no track or lowering anticipated

It appears I can meet these criteria pretty well with 215/45/17 Avon M500s and any of the 17" wheels with 45mm or greater offset.

I'd choose an Avon in the MCS stock size of 205/45/17 if it were available. Lacking that choice, I'd choose the taller sidewall of the 215/45/17 over the other available size 205/40/17 for wheel protection and smoothness of ride.

In this choice, I'm relying on ratings from www.tirerack.com. Has anyone here used the Avon M500 in these sizes on a MINI?

You're on the right track

Your choice of a 215/45/17 with a wheel that has an offset of 45 or greater is a good choice. Happy hunting for the right tires and wheels.

It's not apples to apples, but I'm running 215/45/17 Goodyear F1 GS-D3's on 17x7.5's with an offet of 42mm. Stock suspension, no rubbing.

I ran 215/45/17 Kumho MX on Kosei k1 ts and it rubbed a handful of time. I am running SSR GT1 with the same Kumhos MX and so far no rubbing.

Could the difference be in the width of the wheels? Or is it just an offset difference?

The offset is slighly more on the SSR at 45mm versus the 42mm on the Kosei. It was very slight rub though. Almost the perfect storm had to cause it. I travel the same route five days a week and I can reproduce the rub on the Kosei but so far nada with the SSR.

Update:
Got a litle rub while hoofing it down a freeway on-ramp. Very minor. This was with a full tank, plus I'm no lightweight.
