Help... advice on BREMBO BBK rotor service?

Not being an expert regarding brake service, yet being an owner of an MCS with Brembo brakes (bought the car with them from a BMW dealership owner and enthusiast)

Anyone privy to how many times the Brembo rotors can be treated to accept new brake pads? Is rotor resurcfacing needed every time a new set of brakes pads are installed?

As well, what pads would you recommend I use for best performance with the least amount of dust.

Lots to learn. Show me your knowledge!

Well, I am a big fan of preventative maintenance and change rotors every time I change pads.

Many people get away with using 2 sets of pads on a single set of rotors, but its not the best idea IMO.

Better experts than I can suggest pads for you though. . . .

I'd guess that a suggested minimum rotor thickness is probably available via Brembo. Check their website.

IMO, replacing them every pad change is overkill... especially with expensive rotors on a street car. Now, if it were a race car with stock rotors, I might say otherwise.

The pads that comes with the kit is made by Pagid, not too many pagid dealers around so you could use Hawk HPS pads the will work great for street use, I found them not to be as good as the Pagids that came with the kit for track use. You could also use Hawks racing compound, I use those for track days and you can switch between track and street pads no problem, it only takes about 5 minutes per wheel to switch pads.
If you are able to find Pagids please post that info.

A reasonable rule of thumb is a 10% reduction in width merits replacement.

Thanks to all replies so far!

Todd, I presume you mean a 10% reduction in the width of the "solid" elements of the rotor, not including the cooling vanes? Or do you mean the the whole thing?

All of it.

Example; a BBK rotor of 13 x .81 will be 'worn' at .729". A 1.10 rotor worn at .990".

I would suggest NEVER having your rotors resurfaced (resurfacing is simply a bandaid on a severed limb). If there are grooves, replace, if there is just normal wear, and minimum thickness is not compromised, just bed in your new pads. If you race, just replace at the same time as pads; better safe than smashed.

Providing there is no runout on your rotors - just have the surface recut. No reasons to turn.

Where to get replacement parts for Brembo BBK

After calling all the vendors that sell the Brembo BBK and being told that they do not carry replacement parts, I called Brembo USa to find out where to get replacement parts.

Their recommendation is to get replacement parts from their distributor " Race Technologies 1-310-306-3158"
The following is their recommendation on whats needed for rotor replacement and its not a cheap fix:
Rotor Disc 2 @ $330ea
Hat hardware Kit $130 ( hardware needed to remount disc to hat)
OEM Pads @ $215 (These are Pagid sportpads Blue)

So as you can see for a complete replacement of rotors and pad it will cost $1005 not including taxes and shipping.

This kit for the MINI is the sames one used on the Viper and Lotus fronts.

If your need is for Pagid race pads then you could also try northstarmotorsports.com they carry race pads and they are usually in stock.

Sice I track my car I do carry a spare set.

Thanks to all for your help on this.

$1000.00 bucks for replacements....

No wonder people's eyebrows raise when I say I have brembo GT's.

Consider me schooled.
